I have some black wool gabardine trousers and a black merino polo collar sweater. What would you suggest for a jacket in both fabric and color?

Would try something from a contemporary line, such as Lemaire, Stephan Schenider, or even Robert Geller. But if the pants approach CM, they may not work.

In a more traditional aesthetic, I don't think there's a place for black gab trousers.

The black wool pants almost force the jacket choice to be wool, and the two black items further narrow it down to mid- or dark gray, assuming an all-black menacing look is not the intent.
