Wow, those really are thick soles.
Yup. I dunno if you read my explanation about where the non-fashion inspiration originally came from, but they were from John Romita Jr.'s comic book drawings, specifically in Daredevil and The Uncanny X-Men. My boots were inspired by the way he drew the superheroes in streetclothes.
Anyway, if we were to do this boot again, for the general public, we'd probably go with the single leather midsole. Not only would it decrease the price by $30 or so, but it would be considerably more accessible to most. However, it would be cool and flattering if people wanted to go with my original idea as well. They seem exaggerated, but by that same token, it was not so long ago that Trickers on a Christy sole looked novel and a bit over the top, and now, that's commonplace.
Alright. A few notes:
A) Would be in the oiled tan black. This is a stock leather, and one of the leathers that is specifically treated to have the smooth side out. I think that this makes it the perfect leather choice for this boot.
For B, I am tending towards a dainite sole, based on both what has been said here, and what I've been told off the forum. However, given the large number of people indicating that they'd like to buy, we may be able to offer both.
For C (excavated boot), the french calf is what makes it expensive. It is the same leather used for things like Hermes bags - super uniform. We should have that, and for that type of treatment, you want a more fine leather, to get the right effect, but we need to be sure that the leather is available. Guy suggested that since that boot has a greater number of eyelets, we use the small eyelets that are the same used in the Leffot boot.
For D) the Cabourn boot shown is actually in the copper, not tan, but if guys really don't like it, the cinnamon is available as well. I want to know where you guys stand.
E is in limbo right now, as we reconsider what leather colors we'd use as replacements.
That sounds perfect for A, Fok. What are people's thoughts in regards to A being on a different last? I own a 2030 and have to admit even for my average to slim feet, it is narrow. It fits me well but for others it might kill.
How about the 110 or 2040 last people?
I am still in for D but in cinnamon.
I think that for that first boot, the 2040 might be a decent choice. I personally like the 110 last, but it will make a boot in that makeup look much more generic and take away the special. If we are going to go with that 2040, though, I'd really like to hear people pipe up now. The 2030 is a very distinctive look that I assume that people really would like to see.
For C, I really feel like the 2030 last is the right last.
I'm definitely up for the A in the 2040. Anyone else?
edit: to give a clear idea, borrowing Finn's pics, the 2040 last:
I just wanted to post the 2030, 2040, and 110 lasts. Unless you are really familiar with footwear, it's sorta like trying to guess what a person is going to look like based purely on their skeleton, but you can at least get an idea.
I have not seen a shoe on the 2040 last in person, but from Guy's description, it is like the 2040, but a bit more ergonomic. The 110 last, as you can see, is considerably more rounded and not elongated, and has considerably more room through the midfoot and the toe. It's a much more "traditional" last. In terms of width, iirc, 2030 is the narrowest last, and 110 is the widest.
Any more discussion needed? Anyone really want to go to the 2040 last for boot A?
I would like to ask Guy (though he may not be around this coming week) about these makeups, get a firm price, and then get them up ready for your pre-sale needs. The faster I can do this, the faster you get your boots.
Come on people! A on the 2040 with brass eyelets!
Regardless Fok, even with the standard makeup described for the poll, I'm in.
Also, this is probably obvious but in this custom order can we order different sizes for each foot? E.g. I'd like a 10 for my left and. 9.5 for my right. Can we do that?
I'd have to ask Guy about that. In those cases, were it allowed, we'd have to ask for full payment up front.
Are you sure you want that? a 1/2 size difference is fairly noticeable, and you'd have to have really different feet for that to work.
Definitely Fok, if possible, I've no problem with paying upfront.
I've got a pair of 2030s in 9.5 and the left is a bit too tight lengthwise; measuring up my left is approx 1.5cm longer than my right.
So, options A, B, and D (in cinnamon roughout) have been cleared to sell immediately. The black calf boots are also going to be up for presale - we are just waiting on the time frame, since black calf is not an in stock leather.
I will put up the full descriptions at www.styleforummarket.com/preorders, starting tomorrow.
Excellent, let us know when they're live Fok. Do you know yet whether it will be possible to make an order for different foot sizes?
