25-tone sneakers used to be reserved for high-end running shoes. Unfortunately for us, shit rolls down hill.

If I wear no-show socks with loafers, am I wearing loafers without socks?

What kind of hairs do we have to split to say these are notably different than any of the shoes that pop up on their site? They're all unnatural blobs of multi-colored alien goo.

All you're saying is that you have a lower aesthetic vocabulary than 99% of the population, who can tell the difference between a middle aged mom in Roshe Runs and a teen in Jordans.

Ugly sneakers, without question. And tailoring under Barbour. The only person who ever looked good in this kit was Jake Grantham when he was at The Armoury.

I don’t get the whole tailoring under Barbour or polos under sports coats being a trend. Both have been done pretty steadily as far as I can remember, so at least the mid 80s and Im sure even longer.

I actually wore tailoring under Barbour a couple of days back. This wasn't a style choice though, I arrived at work and the car park was full. I had to park a couple of miles off site and the weather was cold with mist and rain. Didn't have an overcoat or umbrella in the car and so I put my Barbour on over the top to keep me warm and dry. I didn't think it looked too bad! That said, the Blazer beneath it was very informal, an Unstructured knit and it had the feel of a cardigan under Barbour

Barbour over tailored was a longtime simple, practical thing to grab and put on over your tweed jacket and tie if you were running errands, fishing or heading to the pub in the English countryside. However, during the 80’s the “Sloane Rangers”embraced it as part of an upper/upper-middle class look due in part to numerous photos of the newly wed Charles and Diana wearing theirs while at their country home. (If you like the history of style in the UK, pick up an old copy of Sloane Ranger. It’s the UK’s version of The Preppy Handbook. It pokes fun at the status movement of the late 70’s and early 80’s. It’s in jest but with underlying facts which is what makes it funny)

X-post from RFT since it’s more germane to the discussion here:

I was just considering whether Demna’s play on the public with Vetements and Balenciaga wasn’t just to Ashton Kutcher the fashion industry but to show that nothing is ugly, it’s just shifting perceptions of ugliness (and beauty). The true cost of these brands is therefore not their ticket cost, but what it cost to get that message broadcasted: production and some unlucky buyers - all sacrifices to the cause.

(At the time I wrote this I was staring into the middle distance over a bowl of ramen, so it’s not a committed position, just a thought exercise).

Maybe the worst trend of 2018 is - “Nothing is Ugly”
