I like the idea of a Unique tie (must be on the long side), that tweaks conventional style, a tie that conveys a wink to a knowing fellow member of the Forum. Something of an inside joke.
I could support cufflinks too, as long as the same wink and nod premise held.

like cufflinks in the shape of the McCallum chukkas? I personally would like to find links with a bowler on one end and a brolly on the other.

Since I don't have to wear a tie at my job - I would prefer cufflinks. But if we go with the tie, I'd probably buy one of those as well.

It might be fun - and it doesn't have to be pretentious. It's not like we're going to publicize this, so it's not really pretentious if none but the members and visitors to this forum are aware of the meaning.

O.K. guys, let's make some decisions. I am about to go on a sourcing trip to Europe. If there are other manufacturers out there, let's talk. I can create a couple of designs and post them. From there we narrow things down and make a choice. I can make it three different ways. I have a good tie maker in Como, who is quite reasonable. Domestically we could work with Carrot & Gibbs out of Boulder, Colorado. Neil Borin the owner is a good friend of mine and he does a great job on neckties, even though his specialty is bow ties. If you guys want the best in the world, I'll go to Arte Seta in Como ( they create designs for Brioni and Stefano Ricci, to name a few ) and have the ties made by Italo Ferretti in Pescara ( they produce for all the top brands ). You come up with a consensus about price and off we go. By the way, has the forum ever had meetings......I am sure the New York Times article has increased memebership ( that's how I became a member).......a tie introduction could elevate the membership even more.

How about a blue pocket square. Just like the Crips except in Italian silk.

Oh, now we're talking. Someone needs to come up with our 'gang sign' too, so we can represent if we spot each other on the street.

Will Andy's color be different, and then we can have 'Vespa-by' shootings in a war for forum turf?

New members will be 'jumped in' by having their most cherished garment viciously attacked with shoe polish, red wine, and mustard.

And the West Side can give 'big ups' by tucking their left trouser leg into their Pantherellas.

You know, reading this thread takes me back to the day Steve came into our shop and talked to me about his project. He encouraged me to check out his forum, said it was pretty interesting. I said "ok, what's it about, what do you expect from it?". And he said, with a straight face, "well, hopefully, someday, someone will take my trademark and put it on underwear."

LOL... If ours is blue, Andy's square will be red of course.

I'd be more in favor of cufflinks or a pocket square, but ties are OK too. I like Dutch Master's idea simply because I think it's be more unique. And I think we've got to have the deep red. And Alex, I would buy Style Forum Zimmerli underwear... [IMG]

I have talked with my agent in Como and I am prepared to come up with some designs. I need a price point and color. My personal suggestion is to stay with the warm red tone as Steve suggested. Does the Styleforum have a particular Pantone color as their own? I am leaving for Italy next Tuesday, I need some consensus by then.

Wow, we're choosing pantones. Hmm... I don't have a fandeck around, I'll have to drop by the art supply in my running around today.

Also, let's get some answers on the price point, if that's necessary. I don't know how ready we are to do the project, but that part could be answered. How much would people be willing to pay for a SF tie, assuming essentially best available construction and materials?

Personally, I don't know how much I'd be willing to pay as I haven't bought a tie at retail in.. ever, actually. I almost never get to wear them any more.

I will repeat what I have said before.

I do believe that as "Senior Tie Maker" on this forum the "honor" or whatever you want to call it, perhaps right of first refusal belongs to Chuck.

Its not that we dont know and admire who Dutch Master is and what he does do (heck in the 16 posts that he has contributed to the forum in this one week thats all we heard) its just that its only fair that the option should go to Chuck.

Jon, I agree with you, and thanks for mentioning that. Where is Chuck, anyway?

But, while the topic is fresh, we can still get the idea fleshed out and ready to go as much as possible.

I'd like it if everyone who would buy a tie, cufflinks, or "pocket square" (assuming they approve of the design) would respond to this message so we can gauge the interest in the project. It's easy, do it like this:

I would buy a tie, if it cost at most $ .
I would buy cufflinks, if they cost at most $ .
I would buy a "pocket square", if it cost at most $ .

Or should we try to get designs together and chosen first before doing this? A feasibility study might be good before anyone gets his hopes up, is all I'm saying. Unless whoever is making the stuff doesn't mind making only 3 of something, or whatever.
