I have a collar stay that has fallen into my collar and i am unable to get it out. I was wondering if this collar stay will melt or warp making the shirts look weird of it if will have any other affect on the shirt

It may melt, yes, bending or wringling your collar. Hence, two choices - have someone get it out, or, hand wash the shirt and drip dry being careful with the iron. I have sometimes forgotten to take them out before cleaning and, nuts, the stays are now not useful, bending mostly in semi-circles. [IMG]

How can you not get it out? We can put a man on the moon but you can't get a collar stay out? Just push it out be pressing on the fabric.

I bought a T&A shirt off Ebay once that had the collar stay not only broken off but melted to the frabric. Just get a pair of tweezers and pull it out. I did, and it was fine.

Agreed. Tweezers or needlenose pliers will do the job just fine. I've had to use tweezers to yank out plastic collar stays that have gone through commercial laundering and pressing, and gotten stuck in the channel as a result. The stays come out, sometimes slightly melted with fabric impressions on them, but they do come out.

The collar stay has fallen into the fabric. It is running horizontal to the collar not vertical like it should be. There was a flaw in the shirt i guess which caused the collar stay to fall into the shirt and tweezers would not get it out because i can't even get to it anymore.

You still may be able to get it out of there by manipulating the collar and pushing it back to the channel. The problem is that you have a hole in the channel that future collar stays will fall through unless repaired. I'd suggest that you cut open the channel, fish out the stay, and stitch it closed again. Since it is in the back of the collar the repair won't be visible.

If you leave it in there, it will melt into place if ironed, and create a visible impression on the cloth.

I recently contacted Brooks Brothers regarding a return.  The customer service people told me to send the shirt in and they will handle the shirt according to whether it was purchased at a factory store or their main store.

Seems like an easy process.  They responded to my e-mail within 24 hours as follows:

Thank you for contacting Brooks Brothers customer service.

Please return the shirt to our Catalog Distribution center in Edison, New Jersey. The address is as
    follows:

    Brooks Brothers
    Returns Department
    350 Campus Plaza
    Edison, NJ 08837

Please include a letter explaining this was a gift and contact information. If the shirt was purchased through the catalog or a Brooks Brothers retail store, we will be able to process the exchange. If the shirt was purchased through a Brooks Brothers outlet store, we will forward the shirt to the outlet store to process the exchange.

Please contact us if you need further assistance.
