Any of you other Parents have this problem? We are <60 days out and are having a hard time getting off first base. We are having a girl (our first), and part of the problem is that we had a boys name all picked out but never really focused on girls names. So here we are, completely unable to come up with anything other than a mid-sized list of meh names.
We have a couple of qualifications for a name:
1. Prefer to start with A or D (long story)
2. Nothing too trendy or trying too hard (no made up, soap opera, chick lit, too many Y's, etc...)
3. Nothing too ethnic....I have a very Jewish last name, so choices are somewhat limited.
4. that said - nothing too Jewish either...(equally long story)
We're ok with foregin names (french, russian, etc....) as long as they are mostly americanized. No Svetlanas or anything like that.
In my mind, the issue is that my wife seems to really want a fru fru feminine name, and I am leaning towards uni-sex or even masculine names.
I feel like long term a more uni-sex or common name will 'wear better' over time. I have too many freinds with kids who have this very adorable names for a 3 year old, but I just dont see them wearing that well when the are in their 50's with 3 kids and a 4 pack a day cigarette habit. equally , I dont see people discussing the CEO of a fortune 500 company named Mykenzy or something terrible like that.
Having said that, my first choice at the moment is 60/40 a boys name, and that has its own set of problems so they tell me....I've always liked girls with BOys names (maybe its some latent homosexuality - dont even get me started on girls with short hair....)
So, amicrazy or was naming your kids this difficult???
PS - did anyone have any clue having a baby was so f'ing expensive?
