If it's sunshine and tranquility you are looking for in California, I would suggest the lovely city of Compton. Countless songs by modern day "beach boys" give accounts of the splendor of this city.

Watts also has a wonderful reputation in that regard; and while in Northern California, might I suggest West Oakland?

No. "Brick City" is the nickname for Newark, New Jersey. It's like the California of the East Coast.

Never lived in California Danny boy. I prefer the East Coast.
