That is how brokerage/handling fees work for private carriers.

Everyone in the US pays. The bill comes later or you can call in to pay it ahead of time. For the 234908230438290th time, yes, you should pay these fees. For US customers, it will be less than that aforementioned CAD fee.

With fed ex I usually pay in the low $40 range. It's not stupid it's just part of international shopping and something you should be expecting and aware of. If $40 makes something "not worth it" then don't order it.

This must be from how the forms are being filled to fedex when the shoes get shipped out. From my experience with ordering from Farfetch who is an online outlet for boutiques in anywhere from Italy, France, and Sweden, I've never received duty fees. My orders costed anywhere between $300-600 USD and shipped through fedex/ups.

It's crazy how someone of you are getting these ridiculous prices. When you use the FedEx duty estimator you put in all the info and you'll see what you should be paying. When the item gets to your country the carrier assess whether or not there needs to be a fee place based on the price. This is the same with any carrier. Custom fees should never be a surprise but if you don't know what the label says you obviously won't know. Fot people who bought items over 200 you will get fees because everything that comes into the U.S. that is over 200 is slapped with custom fees (if the label actually says 200 or above). If it's under 200 there's nothing else to be paid, I buy almost all my clothes overseas and not once have I been billed. For the ones who got their pair, what price is written and what category is checked?

Edit: my purchases never were or exceeded $200 from international buyers

You do realize that some stores ship DUTY/FEES PAID and this is a different service? . . .

Since we're headed down this road (again), you should not expect retailers to be willing to mark down values for you. If some are willing to do this or proactively do it, that is nice of them.

If he didnt pay fees with 300-600 dollar purchases they had to have either paid it off or undervalued it for sure

like he just said, some stores pay it. I'm pretty sure FarFetch has this specifically built into their business model.

Mhm the former is more likely, but in my case one doesn't exist.

Just got my tan suede chelseas today. They're really well made, and the attention to detail for the packaging is crazy. Would definitely recommend those who are unsure to pull the trigger before prices increase (I have no idea if they actually will, but my gut feeling is that at the current price point it's a relative steal... it seems brands like these usually do). Will probably order a pair of black calf chelseas or jodphurs next.

Not sure if I'll be charged customs yet, but based on some of the delivery notifications on UPS I suspect I will. As long as they're < $40 that's reasonable to me.
