Storing Leather Boots?

Sorry if this is an odd question but if I want to store a pair of new, unworn pair of leather boots for an extended period of time (1+ years), can I just keep it in the back of the closet assuming the closet is not too damp or hot?

Or should I apply some type of leather conditioner before storing it even though it's new?

Thanks!

Probably a good idea to condition them at least once a month, even if unworn. You don't want them to dry out.

Thanks, do you recommend any specific brand of conditioner? They are tan colored 9" casual boots.
