I was in Italy recently and got to visit many stores in Florence and Rome (but unfortunately not Milan) and was able to snap pictures with my flash turned off pretty easily in all of the ones I visited (nobody minded)

I'm going to post them a little at a time in the hopes that many of you who live in Europe will reciprocate and take your cameras along the next time you go shopping to share what you find for those of us living half way around the world

Tie Your Tie - Florence

IMG_2336.jpg

the stripe on this charcoal jacket is medium brown in color - my camera is making it look red because of the sun's glare - the combination is stunningly beautiful in person

Settantatre - Florence

these are former Sutor Mantellassi guys who went off on their own and the shoes are stunning - even better than Sutor and only 400-500 euros a pair. The antiquing is top notch. If Kiton and Sutor shoes had an offspring, it would be Settantatre

the store itself has no name on it, just an address...their business card calls the store "LR"

the address is Via Porta Rossi 78/R and it's well worth a visit

a Scott Schuman/Sartorialist favorite and much nicer inside than the displays

Boggi - Florence

it definitely is the Brooks Brothers of Italy

in fact, there was a recently **closed** Brooks Brothers store about 3 addresses down from Boggi so I guess we know who won that battle

the casual pants in Boggi were especially nice for the price - nice cottons and wools with a perfect taper to the legs

Liverano & Liverano

was closed when I walked by so I could only get a shot of their window display

Ermini - Florence

right near the Duomo, this had an outstanding wool tie selection and I bought 3 of them as well as great selection of wools for sportcoats and suits. You have to ask to see the ties,,,,they're in drawers that the owner will open for you. Nice people in that shop, too

Corneliani - Florence

not much to see other than this one jacket in the window unfortunately - lots of Corneliani ID junk.

Sutor Mantellassi - flagship store in Florence

I was extremely disappointed with the store especially since this is the city where they are located. One would think the main store would be awesome. Not so

Brioni - Rome

a big disappointment....they are going downhill fast

only 1 sportcoat of interest and some ties...

IMG_4118.jpg

Kiton - Rome

another even bigger disappointment,,,, except for a few pieces here and there, and the beautiful striped grey flannel suit in the window. I got their fall/winter catalog and it matched what was in the store

I like the shoes but as with most stores, the clothes upon their mannequins are a farce. It's either something that would very rarely translate into the real world or it's ridiculously pinned in back to make it look like it actually fits.

Half the things you unpin and you'd have inches of slack and sag.
