I think too rare for me (hard to know for sure unless i get the specs from the pic, along with equipment used ;)) but a beautiful piece of meat nonetheless. Nice char.

also need to get gradient measurement on steak

Anyone ever do a strip loin as a roast? Thinking im gonna do one for Christmas dinner (my mom isnt a fan of the fat on prime rib!

plan is to treat it just like prime rib. Anything I am missing?

No, I doing something very similar. This is one way to roast it to give you some ideas. I plan on smoking mine for a bit.

Prime Rib at the club last night. Hadn't had one in a couple of years. (Never see it on restaurant menus anymore) They serve it "old school" with the little aluminum side dishes of au jus and horseradish sauce, a baked potato with sour cream, chopped green onions, real bacon bits & shredded cheese with a side of sauteed vegetables.

I don't watch this channel for the cooking methods but it does give some excellent information on the names of different cuts. This is a good look at the prime rib.
