I have VERY limited funds but I am trying to start my suit collection. I have been buying used suits off eBay the past 2 months and this is what I have so far. I will send the links to the finished auctions as the pictures are better there than what I could take. It also show the price paid. So far I haven't spent that much in tailoring. The highest so far was 88.00. The lowest so far is 38.00.
I am a 46R jacket and depending on how it is cut it fits perfect. I have each jacket taken in at the waist for a slimmer fit. The shoulders have always been perfect along with the collar. The sleeves have for the most part been near perfect. If its close (where the "normal" person wouldn't notice it was 1/4" pf a inch to long) then I don't bother having the jacket sleeves shortened in order to save money.

Pants/Jeans I am usually a 36x32 but I notice all suit pants I have gotten that were 32 it was way too long......lol did I get shorter in my older age (41)? Anyhow I am now starting to look at 30, 29 and even 28 in pants (seeing I could have the tailor lengthen it some) 30 seems to be the perfect fit for one break in the pants.........maybe I didn't get short but since you don't wear suit pants"baggy" I don't need it in 32. Anyhow below are the suits. I have read up on what colors I should have as staples and started there. I do not wear a suit for work but I want my wardrobe ready for when the time comes so I don't need to scramble and pay silly retail prices on a suit then get a rush tailoring job. I maybe will wear each suit once a year if that. Please let me know your thoughts on how I did.

SUITS:

1) This is my first suit. I got it from Mens Warehouse in 2009. Its a Calvin Klein. Looks nice enough doesn't fit the best but I like the fabric and how it looks. Think I paid 350.00 for it then. Its the only suit from this list purchased retail.

2) Stafford Wool Gray 2 Button

3) BROOKS BROTHERS Gray

4) ALAN FLUSSER Black

5) Lauren Ralph Lauren Navy Blue

6) RALPH LAUREN Dark Taupe

7) Stafford Blue Pinstripe

8) Wm H Leishman Gray Pinstripe

9) Franco Tassi BLACK Double Breasted

10) Chaps by Ralph Lauren Dark Gray striped

Let me know how I did and if you have any comments or suggestions just post away. Thanks guys.

^$#$#, No one here to take proper pics. I understand you need to see how they fit on me.
Since that is not possible can you give your opinion based off what is known about the brand and price paid?

When starting to accumulate clothing it is easy to buy what catches our eye or is a good deal. But neither matters unless it has a fit that compliments your build. No matter what the brand or how much you paid if a suit is too small or too big or cut in a style that is 15 years old, it just wont look great.

My advice would be to try on things and only keep the best fitting suits. Resell the rest.

Also, you don't need to go on a 2 month buying spree until you know what fits you well, what to look for, etc.
Do you have a good place near to where you live to get alterations done?

(Sell the black DB right away.)

Yes I have a good tailor 5 minutes away. I have been using him since this started.

LOL Yeah I thought the black double breasted looked.......dated to say the least after getting it. Funny I liked that the least out of all my suits and thats the first one you commented on. Going to donate it to the salvation army.

Why buy so many budget suites rather than investing in two better ones and getting them altered to fit you properly?

The problem is those are all super cheap and super low quality, Brooks Stretch and Lauren RL isn't even real BB or RL, so that's what's known about those brands. Just wear them until fall apart and then throw them out is probably all that can be said about a 50$ suit. The fit is really the only important thing left here.

If I were I'd have focussed on starting with less quantity but more quality. Be a little picky, even at a budget. No need to accumulate garbage.

again, some pics would move this thread along in allowing us to comment as to how well you did.
I have to agree with others, and concentrate on what "really" fits and looks good for your particular body shape.
Really no need, especially seeing as you ATM don't even wear a suit for work, to be accumulating someone else's junk.
A well fitting suit needn't be "expensive" or name brand. But at least choose the correct name brand, if it has to be name brand, but more importantly find your "correct fit". You really only need 3 quality suits.

Gotcha!
I will try to get some pics of me in the suits to post.
I already posted the Calvin Klein on ebay to sell and donated the black double breasted suit.
