And I hear you on Tokyo - I used to complain about it but I have not set foot in Japan in 19 months so I’ll happily deal with getting smooshed on the Yamanote line. Hell, at this point I’d even fly into Narita willingly!
I know what you both mean. My wife is Japanese and we usually spend at least a month in Tokyo every year, but longer if I have research funding and other reasons to be there longer. We were last there in March 2020, but we came back when they closed the schools so there was no real point to my son being there... there are all sorts of weird things I miss: obviously the food, but things like cycling at night in the warmer months, running along the Arakawa, and, yes... above all, the cool little shops in Jingumae, Omotesando, Ebisu and everywhere... when I was actually able to feel ts(s) or 45r (and no doubt Black Sign and NNN, although I hadn't come across them) stuff for example, it was a revelation because you realise how much of a level up in quality they are from most things in North America that they might superficially resemble.
BTW, I should just say - I love your shop: the aesthetic, the care - it's all the kinds of things I love about small shops in Tokyo. I'd say it was the nearest thing online in the English-language world to those places I miss so much.
