St. Crispin's Appreciation Thread

Recently received these Dark Brown Mountain Grain Oxfords from Skoaktiebolaget. I like them for their casual style and simplicity, the leather's similar ascetic to russian calf, and the included Vibram sole. Great makeup by Saint Crispin's and the people at Skoaktiebolaget for a very fair price after discount. Thought I'd share these with the thread.

I bought this exact pair. Really like the look of them in person. They’re relegated to fall/winter rotation but looking forward to breaking them in.

You have an eye for a good pair of shoes. I've only worn mine once but I'm curious how the Mountain Grain will feel after breaking it in. This is my first time breaking in a pair of new Saint Crispin's and after a two hour wear my heels weren't masked with blisters.

Toward the end of last year (2018), I commissioned 3 semi-bespoke cap toe Oxfords, all in Burgundy antique, from three different makers. All done on “modified standard” lasts to varying degrees.

And the candidates are in. Who did it best?

1. St. Crispins Model 522B (design modified)
2. GC Cleverley’s Anthony Cleverly Nakagawa
3. Edward Green Cadogan 202C Last

Cleverley’s win based on looks .. the fit matters more IMO and that only you can tell.

As mentioned, fit is king, of course, but on looks alone, the Cleverley's, without question. For St.C, did you use the Classic last as the base for modification?

The George Cleverley’s are impressive. Also to be considered along with fit is how the leather will age between the two, seeing as you might have these shoes over multiple resoles. Not sure whether your St. C is crust leather but it looks to be otherwise.

These are all stunning. I mean these are reasons more than enough to want to get up in the morning to go to work if you know you'll be wearing one of them. Even if you happen to hate your job, seriously. Do you mind sharing prices and delivery times for each?

How do the Cleverley’s fit? The last looks to have a sharper toe than the other two.

That’s the Cleverley look. The chiseled toe aka suspicious square toe last.

The St. C is crust indeed. Philip always recommends it.

The jury is out on how they’ll age. I’m an EG veteran so I can vouch for its graceful aging quality.
