Greetings everyone,

I am in the final stages of fitting for a pair of Saint Crispin's 522c for my wedding this September. Phillip has been incredibly insightful and attentive but I felt in need of additional input regarding the shoe color.

My suit is a mid blue navy, and Phillip has recommended CRU609 due to the formality of the occasion (and his self-admitted European preconceptions). The thing is, the wedding aesthetic is somewhat rustic almost like a fall garden party and I feel that the CRU609 is a bit too formal as an extremely dark brown.

Thus I am waffling between CRU606, CRU607 and CRU608. I welcome any and all opinions/personal experience with any of these colors and their pairing with a mid blue suit.

the suit linked above is the closest comparison I can give to the suit, my future father-in-law was kind enough to have me fitted for a bespoke suit by his tailor and I have my first fitting in two weeks!

Beautiful suit. All CRU colors will work fine. Pick the one that will go with more outfits after the wedding.

Personally, not a 608 guy. I do like this color. Don't know what the code for the color is though.

Just be mindful that wearing a brand new pair could be painful sometimes.. a few folks mentioned that the break in experience is quite bad.

It's true, compared to G&G these feel like solid tanks initially. That being said I got fitted in person and have my own modified last, and it's not been that bad.

Off the rack fits me very well too with no break in required

The more I see them in the wild the more that extended split toe starts appealing to me.
I've got the 633 as well, but most of my other split toes are EG Dovers so was willing to take a chance on something "different "

First off, congratulations on the wedding.

As anyone who knows me knows, I am not a fan of crust leathers. I would have gone the route of aniline Medium or Dark Brown (VNA 076, VNA 078) leather. That said, given the choices above, I would select CRU607, especially since you believe the CRU609 is too dark.
Given your suit is a Mid Blue, the darker colors will appear a touch too formal for it, as you mentioned. I do, however, believe the darker brown is much more versatile as it can be used with a Navy, Charcoal, and Dark Grey suits. Which translates to using the shoes for more than the wedding.

Back to the CRU607, I believe the 607 looks to be a Med/Dk Brown, but you guys with better eyes than me can confirm that. The Med-Dark Brown should in theory work with the Mid-Blue suit better than the darker colors. I'd go so far as to suggest the CRU606 is the best looking option for this suit (combines best), but I don't find it as versatile as the other two colors. Especially, if it is your first or second StC shoe.

Why do you prefer aniline over crust?

Why do you prefer aniline over crust?

I would say the fading and creasing seems rather pronounced on StCs crust leathers compared to others. It also seems to occur much quicker than most. Really though, I prefer a leather that retains it's appearance whilst looking more uniform.

That uniformity also carries with it a richness and the leather just feels more substantial to my hand.
