From my experience, this is not normal at all. I just rec'd four pairs within the last four weeks, posted them here someplace, and all of them arrived in perfect pristine condition. I am curious about the resolution, so please keep us posted on how this works out with StC, if you don't mind.

Crust leather is a weird animal, so I can see you missing that scratch. When I do MTO, I roll right past crust with ease since there are so many other leathers from which to choose. Is this a MTO? Also, Maybe you can show pictures of the entire shoe.
Just saw your post as I was heading out the door. Here is a quick snap. I will try and get some better pictures later.

Yes, they are MTO on my (developing) personal last. Fit is satisfactory, and definitely way better than either of my trial shoes.

Here are the specs
Oxford, toe box, top line, counter and vamp brogueing – Mod. 661,
Black crust calf leather – CRU 999,
Hand welted leather sole, 8mm – GE8,
Black sole and edge,
Metal tips,
Hollowed shoe trees – Maple,

So, I got a reply from Philip. He basically said wear the shoes. These type of marks will appear anyway, and when they are worn out send them back and we will make them look new again. He attached pictures of a recrafting they did.

I guess I am fine with that reply, because I do not even know what I was asking for. I definitely think a refund or a remake would have been overkill, and there is really nothing else to offer anyway, so what is he supposed to say.

If I were you, I will ask him if there's anything you can do to at least make the scrach less obvious.

I mean if you never mention I probably wouldn't notice it, but once you did, it is a bit obvious, not sure if you can somehow press the leather or use a bit of leather repair to make it better.

Anyway, other than that it looks great!

Yeah it is obvious if the light catches it wrong, but totally invisible in the right light. Also, I am sure no one else will notice it.

Maybe ask him to send you something you can apply yourself? They must have something that you can use easily that won't ruin your shoes. Like I mentioned, it wouldn't bother me because I beat up my shoes pretty good anyway. But I am a tiny bit surprised with the response - that he left it there. In any event, as I mentioned, they are very nice. Congratulations.

That's basically the response I figured they would give, although I would argue my "wear it and forget it" phrase was more catchy ?.

In any case, as @Encore & @BomTrady have already mentioned, they look great. Did you say they fit well, or was that my imagination?

THIS is perfect and makes me comfortable enough to swap out for the 1/2 smaller. The fit of your Rain is almost exactly the same as mine (lacing width, flexing in leather, etc). Thanks for taking the time to write the above.

Beautiful pictures!

Wanted to follow up on my experience. Ordered 1/2 size smaller and they are fantastic! Thanks again to @DL120 for the post and for chatting on IG!

They look great. Lately, StC's batting average hasn't been the highest, so it's nice to finally see a good result.
Yeah for sure good to see things work out like they should. While not defending StC, I think to be fair, I’m sure there are more folks trying remote fitting or sizing online which can be tough to nail down for the first time

either way, I love these boots even when it’s 95 and feels like 105 lol
