I have a question about steel toe plate StC uses with 4 holes. I have not seen this type used other than StC. Is it commonly available? I want to replace the toe plate locally using the same type of plate and same screw holes.

Regarding pivot point, I assume I need to make sure that the point at which the shoe flexes is in line with the point at which my foot also naturally flexes? If it is not, then the heel to ball length needs to be adjusted?

For in-step I suppose it should be snug but not tight?

Wasn't the excess volume on top issue detected during the trial shoe stage?

Yes, the pivot point (there is probably a technical term) is where the ball and arch flex.

There is a fine line between sung and tight on the instep, but oxford and derby shoes are much more forgiving. I would avoid tight on loafers because they are not as forgiving.

    Not by the retailer.

I’d bought many pairs of trial shoes and actually given up on STC until I figured I’d give it one more shot and saw Zach directly.

He was able to explain and fix what the retailer was missing pretty quickly.

This is why I recommend going direct.

This plus 11. Zach sent my loafers back to Romania to get the cross strap adjusted for an instep issue I had. Awesome customer service.

What would be considered the quintessential Saint Crispin's model?

I'd go with the Mod 105, their "iconic wingtip":

Going to be my next St. C's pickup. But I'm thinking in their MOU grain leather...

An evening shot of my newly arrived Mod 505s (modified with a cap toe) in CRU 058. Such a great color, a really deep blue. Almost black indoors. I wonder if it will lighten with some time and wear.

Those are great. I love how they tend to look once they age a bit.

Honestly, fellas, how do you rate the comfort and fit of StC?

The fit depends how success the last fits your feet, took 2 goes before my customised last worked for my feet. I saw a lot of posts on here where someone posted they are getting a pair of mod. lasted pair, and they are expecting the fit to be perfect, well, that is not even the case for bespoke shoes most of the time as they require different fittings. I didn't want to rain on their parade.

SC is quite stiff, breaking in takes a bit of time, then they will become normal.
