Thanks my man! I've seen a few versions of this boot and like them all. The shell models rock extra hard.

    Well said.

I knew when I saw it for the first time, I just had to get me a pair.

I do like the cordovan, but I think you did real well with the calf.[IMG]

I still kinda want the Bonafe by the way. But every time I think about it, I just find it too hard to justify it.

Calf is easier to maintain for a boot, imo. No spotting and such with bad weather. I've regretted a lot of my shell purchases.

Do you think a burgundy calf can look as good as a burgundy (no8) cordovan?

I don't really like burgundy calf. To me it looks a bit too loud generally. I think it looks better when it takes on more of a brown hue than red if you know what I mean.

That's kind of my worry. No8 shell is not so garish(from the picks) - but its a bugger to get hold of - esp the Alden shades.

Well Alden puts this dye over their no8 shell to kind of make it their own. It takes on more of an eggplant color. I don't have doubt that the folks at Saint Cripsins could do something similar for either calf or shell.

Completely agree. I've found the St.C 611 to be much closer to a Cherry color than a No.8/Rioja/eggplant color which I really like. I ordered my last pair in 611 and asked for them to make it very dark but it still came out a little light for my liking.

I wear [my babies] anyway but when I send them in for resoling I plan to ask them to give the shoes the heavy "midnight" treatment I've seen them give to navy shoes that really darkens the shoe. .

It's the best. I have a pair of Alden's in No. 8 that I should sell bc they don't really fit anymore and they don't realy have a space in my line up. But, the color and patina that has developed over time is so incredible....that I'm having trouble initiating the sale. :violin:

I have a pair of color 8 shell Aldens. I think it's a really nice shade and enjoy the shoes very much. But I don't get the near religious devotion some have to the shade. It's not even my fave of my burgundy shoes. And for a burgundy with pomegranate overtones, my Cleverleys blow the Aldens off the road. IMO. Different strokes, and all that.

    OT content warning, but sure:

    Cleverley: [IMG]

Not that you all needed brand labels.

Very nice @RogerP , those Cleverleys look great. However I will say that with time and wear the Alden's will certainly age quite impressively.

Thank you for sharing. I'm not sure if we would still consider this the same category but I really appreciate the G&G Rioja. It's a color I really wish Saint Crispins would do something like. I'm hoping a "midnight 611" might come out something like it. The color of your Cleverleys would certainly work as well.
