squeaky shoe

I tried the search, and couldn't find anything.

I picked up a pair of loafers at Aldo after work last night, they're black leather with a leather sole under the arch, and rubber on the hell and toe. I wore them to work today and everytime I take a step my shoes squeak. I didn't notice it leaving the house this morning, but my office building is extremely quiet, and I feel like everyone can hear it.

Will this disappear with wear? Is it the fact that they're a pair of cheaper ($100) shoes from Aldo? Is it the fact that I'm wearing them without socks? Can this be fixed, or should I raise hell at the store and get them to exchange them?

Sorry for the n00b question, I just am clueless when it comes to footwear.

Why are you wearing them without socks?

Where is the squeak coming from? Is it when you put your heel down or when you bend your foot? If the former it may be a loose nail in the heel, which can be fixed by peeling up the insole and hammering it down. If the latter it could be from the leather rubbing together or something else...

It's when I step with my weight on the heel.

if I put the weight on the ball of my foot first, they don't squeak.

Sounds to me like the heel is not attached securely, but what I know about shoe construction could fit inside a thimble. Seamstress Barbie's thimble.

I'd take them back. For a refund.

Yeah, I think $100 could be better spent on shoes unless you need something right this second.

You could either peel up the insole and hammer it down yourself, since it sounds like a loose nail is the problem, bring them back for an exchange, or bring them back for a refund and put the money toward a better pair of shoes that will last a lot longer and look better (and probably not squeak).

Any shoes/brands you'd suggest?
I had actually picked up a pair of Allen-Edmonds Park Avenue's in the merlot color originally... then returned them last night since they were $300, and having just order a new car (BMW 330i) I need to save money where possible.
In hindsight, maybe the cheapest isn't the way to go... any middle ground decent shoes?

Loake from Charles Tyrwhitt. Preferably from the Calf leather line. Can get a decent shoe including a nice wholecut for around US$160 when you use the 50% off code. Other than that... AE is a good choice in the middle ground even if many of the shoes are a little unimaginative in the last shape.

Hmm... I'm not sure about that.

I would also suggest the CT Loake shoes. They are very serviceable and good looking. Stay away from the cheaper line in the black - we have determined that the cheaper black leather is plasticky corrected grain, but the cheaper brown is not bad. The calf is even better.
