Spring Break in Fort Lauderdale: Suggestions?

I'm going to Fort Lauderdale for spring break because my friend has a condo there. What are some of the main sights and activities to check out?

I'm particularly excited for the food. I love shellfish so any good restaurants to check out? I'd much rather go to a more affordable / less luxurious restaurant that serves steamed crab/lobster, than some really upscale restaurant for seafood.

Beyond seafood, how about some good, famous cheap eats?

However, I do want to go to at least one really nice place for a fancy dinner (maybe spend $60+, which is probably not very much to many of you, but I'm still in college.. so yeah.), so any recommendations? I don't really care about what type of cuisine it is as long as it's delicious.

We also want to rent a boat and go fishing. Any thoughts on how much that would cost?

Any good hookah bars?

And lastly, what can I do to entice a luxury supercar owner to let me drive his/her lambo/ferrari or at least let me ride in the passenger seat (this is completely serious; please no sexual favors jokes)?

Thanks!

Your goal should be getting a tan, getting drunk, and getting laid. Possibly not in that order.

Eat - make a trip down to Miami and go to Joe's.

Hookah isn't that big down here. If you've got the chops, you might be able to rent a Lambo/Ferrari. Otherwise, bring a valet uniform and steal one a-la Ferris Bueler.

fishing expedition should run you about $150-$200 for a full day tour plus kit.

Depends on how big they are. They judge them by weight. You want Large or Jumbo as the medium ones are too much of a pain in the ass. You'll probably be full after 5 or 6 large ones anyway. When I took the person I take care of out for their birthday in January it was $45 for 5 Large. I don't think the market's moved much recently so I would say probably $50 for a "meal sized" portion at Joe's. Not including any sides or anything. You have to have the Key Lime Pie for dessert.

Not sure what the water temp is like these days but I did a couple of nice dives around Fort Lauderdale early may of last year.

The best high end food in South Florida is all in Miami. Miami is about a 30-45 minute drive south of Ft. Lauderdale.

I think the best restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale is Market 17. The concept is farm to table and they have great local seafood. Its kind of expensive, but if you want a night of fine dining give it a try.

There is a hookah bar called "Off the hookah" near downtown Ft. Lauderdale at a place called Riverside. Its right near the main bar strip on Himmarshee. The crowd can get kind of trashy, but there will be lots of girls in very little clothing. Although that pretty much is everywhere in South Florida.

For fishing there are plenty of places you can charter a boat or take a day trip on Ft. Lauderdale beach. There are also places where you can rent a exotic car, however, many of them are sketchy so do a little research before hand.

If you are staying in Ft. Liqourdale for your whole trip, here are some nightlife places worth checking out. Himmarshee area, lots of bars, college/young professionals. Vibe and YOLO - young professionals/cougars/40 year old men in ed hardy. McSorely's - bar across from beach at Sunrise blvd and A1A. The bars on A1A during spring break are full of spring breakers and lots of fun.

Hope you have a fun trip.

Thanks. This is really helpful. I've actually heard of YOLO -- well, my friend told me about it. His condo is on Las Olas (?) which apparently has a nice strip of shops/restaurants..

Las Olas basically IS Ft. Lauderdale. Its where everything goes down for the most part. I forgot to tell you - If you call Joe's they'll give you the price of crabs over the phone.

what's the parking situation like in miami and ft lauderdale?

we're gonna roadtrip it there because having a car would make it infinitely more convenient to get to places, as well as to more places.

You can find parking. You'll have to pay for it, but you'll be able to find it. Call one of the local spots that you want to hit up and ask their advice. Most are happy to help out.

I'm in Fort Lauderdale right now and about to head over to Miami for some stone crab at Joe's.

We went to off the hookah twice and WOW.. trashy girls and guidos errywhere! The demographic here is slightly older than I expected (late 20s) and there are LOTS of old, rich people. Lot's of milfs. Lot's of exotic cars.

So far my break has been more relaxing than crazy. I haven't gotten shitty yet but that's mainly our fault because we've been eating out so much and can't fathom drinking heavily by the time we're done with dinner.

Went charter fishing for 4 hours.. didn't catch shit which was annoying. I got a lot of nibbbles and went through several rounds of bait but wasn't able to snag anything.

Want some dive seafood? Go to Tark's in Dania Beach. The place looks disgusting, but most of the seafood is fresh off the boats.

Are any of you beer guys or are you just looking for pure Miller Lite binge drinking?
