What looks better/is more traditional if you're not going to wear a tie?

OCBD.

Without a tie I wouldn't wear a spread or point collar. I also think the OCBD looks more traditional. As a matter of fact, I wore that look yesterday.

I think a spread collar looks best with either a jacket and no tie or a v-neck sweater and no tie.

I went to buy some MTM shirts at Borrelli a few years ago. The Manager encouraged me to try spread and cutaway collars because of the way they stay neatly tucked back under/into your lapels. The same applies to a V-neck. I've been a fan ever since. Except for BD collars I don't buy point collar shirts anymore. I especially like a cutaway collar. I think it is very elegant even without a tie. I like that it is still unusual enough to be special but not at all odd.

I wore a point collar unbuttoned under a v-neck the other day and it looked awful. I was fighting the collar all day to stay tucked in, as untucked it spreads far too wide.

I haven't tried a spread collar like this, but I'd try a button-down if possible. Definite no to the point collar.

Spread. I hate button-downs.

Not all 'same' collars are made the same. Some worked for me some didn't. And I never know until I try it on first.

Maybe if they would get off their lazy asses and get jobs, I'd like them more.
