Spot cleaning suit trousers - suggestions?

I've prolonged one of my favorite navy suit's reckoning with a dry cleaner for some time. As a last ditch effort, I'd like to try spot cleaning what may be more an abrasion on the trouser knee than anything else before I submit the entire suit to the mercy of NYC or London cleaners.

So, has anyone had especial success with one type of cleaning agent versus another? What method did you employ?

There are several posts in the archives regarding spot cleaning, but I would appreciate any new info/experience in addition to the near-traditional methods.

Thanks very much.
