Sports Jacket made out of shirting fabric fashion or faux pas

hey guys, What do you think of this Bottega Veneta Bianco Cobalt check jacket

I plan to wear it casually to add more flair to my casual wear, i think they are perfect for the weather we are currently experiencing here.. over 40 degrees celcius for the past week (its so hot that its warping the train tracks). Might be a great alternative. What are your thoughts?

I don't hate it. If it'll blend with whatever else you're wearing, it'll form part of a nice fashion outfit. Potentially.

I actually tried this on today!

Was walking around trying to cheer myself up after my laundry disaster when I saw this jacket in the BV store paired with red gingham shirt & white jeans..

IT FUKING ROCKS, tried it on but the $$$ was WOW - going to se if CHAN can do something similar, maybe a heavier fabric..

Wrinkling doesn't bother me at all, but wearing something like that would.

It is pricey especially with today's economy, its a great idea to get one made thats similar by your tailor, then you could probably get a couple or more made for the same price, i think i might do that, they'd be great for casual picnics or what not

hmm, i never thought of that. but it is a worthy point. Now i'm thinking twice about it

What worries me are the technical aspects of construction. This is not a weight of cloth that is workable for traditional tailoring. It would be impossible to canvas that shirt jacket as the stitching would show through the right side of the front panels. It would probably have to be fused at the front and through to the lapels.

I doubt if there's anything but a double layer of cloth at the very front (where light isn't passing through in the photo). Something as light as this won't need canvassing or fusing.

i understand your reservations about construction, but it's obviously meant to be worn casually. i think it could be pretty cool. from the bv s/s 2009 show:
