Sports coats with faux breast pockets

Are faux breast pockets on sports coats (aka the breast pocket isn't actually a pocket - it simply looks like one) a negative or is it simply a style?

I've found a corduroy sports coat that I plan to wear causally with jeans, and I've noticed it has a faux breast pocket (I don't know if that's the right term). I haven't purchased yet, but wonder what people's thoughts are on here.

I mean, I don't plan on wearing pocket squares or anything. But any comments welcome!

hmmm, sounds like it just stitched shut. Most nicer jackets come the pockets tacked shut, some people even like to leave them that way. The tailor will open it for you after you buy it.

I always wear a pocket square with a sport coat or a suit, but if you don't I guess it does not matter if it is functional. Most likely it is and is sewn shut as others have said.
