Sport shirt fit question

Hello all,

I'm used to wearing dress shirts and suits. I wear a 40 L and shirts with a 15.5 neck and 35" sleeve. I have a 31" waist. These sizes are what I am comfortable wearing.

When it comes to sport shirts, sizes generally go small to extra large.

Should I be going for medium or large sport shirts?

I realize this depends with the shirt maker, but what size should I generally be going for? My problem is that I feel a medium sport shirt is right for my body, neck, and chest.....but sometimes the sleeves aren't long enough. Most seem to be 33-34" and I really would like a 35" sleeve. I don't feel like buying larges and having a tailor alter them. I'm a college student who doesn't have that kind of money to spend. I want to wear my sport shirts OTR and I like a slim/tapered/athletic fit.

I feel like I need a medium with extra long sleeves or a large with a slim body.
