Why does it have to be two button?

+1. I'm wearing my usual RRLs and a 3 button tweed today. I think 3 button is doable, so long as it's not a worsted wool suit orphan.

Sport Coat with denim looks great.

and a few slightly more "risky"/casual looks:

FWIW, referencing The Style Blogger won't give you too much credibility in MC. Not too many fans here.

Thank you. The level of vanity and contrivance in some of those shots is just too much to stomach.

Without sunglasses? Making his own collections? I should think not!

I think it's fine if you have a at least 2 other pieces of clothing/accessories visible on the torso (sweater+collared shirt, collared shirt+tie, sweater+scarf, etc.)

You're right. I was just trying to show some examples.

    Also, what does FWIW mean?

    ORLY?

First AE shoes become the guiding light for footwear and now a SC/blazer with jeans is unacceptable?

This place can be so full of shit sometimes

Go to the Tom Ford section at Bergdorf Goodman and see the first mannequin upon arrival. Then tell us if jeans and a SC/Blazer are not okay.......

I don't think of it as "unacceptable", just that it doesn't constitute "dressing up", and that it's been beaten to death.

I like it in the fall when I don't want to wear an overcoat, but it's too cold for just a shirt.

if your denim is shitty and oversized youll look like a slob. But i wear a sportcoat and nice slim dark jeans all the time. Sometimes, trousers or a full suit wouldnt work. times like this, wear nice denim and a sportcoat.

Exactly. It's cold outside, you're going to buy a pack of cigarettes, and you're already wearing jeans. You put on an SC--not to be swept off of the street and into the pages of GQ--but just to put some fabric on your body. It's easy to misread this thread as saying NEVER wear a sportcoat with jeans, but, in the right context, there's no question that it works. Still, I agree with the more trad-oriented guys who don't want to see what's obviously a cloying attempt at an "outfit" topped off by a sportcoat and jeans. But Threadbearer's look is perfect for going to a movie or a decent restaurant or even a baseball game. The point is that when you're wearing an SC and jeans you don't want to look like you've spent the last two hours in front of a mirror.
