I bought two pairs of Black Fleece trousers and while the seat fit perfectly, I needed to let the waist out about an inch. When I recieved the trousers back from my tailor, I noticed that the waist was still a bit too tight and that in the process of letting out the waist, they sewed together the split waistband. Is this normal? Aesthetically, I prefer the split - but if this is normal, I can understand. Lastly, when I tried the pants on with the tailor, we both thought an inch would suffice. Without the split, I wonder if that extra little bit of expansion makes the pants fit differently. I'm obviously going to ask them to let the pants out just a bit more, but should I also ask to modify the waist band so that it is split again?

Your tailor should not have sewed up the waistband. He was unfamilar with pants having this feature and wrongly saw it as a flaw. That said, he was gracious enough to "fix it" without a word (or a charge) to you.
