Split in leather in shoe

I've tried to have a look through the search function but came up with nothing...

I've got a vintage pair of Church brown brogues which are in pretty good shape. However, where the 2 sides of lace hole panels meet at the bottom of the bridge of the foot, there is a slight split in the leather.

You can see the lighter colour of the leather at this split and it's "raw" leather if you get my drift.

What's my best bet on making sure this doesn't get any worse? Will plenty of wax polish help to keep it waterproof?

Thanks in advance :0
Stephen.

Can't see the pics, but if you've just bought them give them some leather food, leave overnight then polish. Would improve the shoe, but not fix. Best option. Probably need a bit of TLC.

I use Chelsea Leather Food.

This recently happened with a pair of AE Park Avenues that I have as well, right at the toe cap seam. I took the pair to the San Francisco retail location, and they seemed to think it was a defect and that AE would fix/replace it. I just sent the shoes in yesterday, but will post next week what AE customer service decides.

Maybe you could contact Church's customer service and see what they think? Good luck!
