I think the “hijack” comment was a joke, haha.

I don't. It is a recurring theme when people discuss things that are not from or about Spier and Mackay. If you hang around long enough though you get to know the people that comprise this community and get a sense for their tastes etc and it's nice sometimes to hear what they think about other things that you might also be interested in because you trust their opinions.

Wanted to share some fit pics of my garment dyed chinos, these are 35 slim fit. They don’t feel “slim” by my usual definition and there’s no taper to speak of but I like them in theory. Might just take some getting used to as i transition into a more classic menswear look.

@NickisaguyinBK I also have these in high rise but in 33 contemporary. I'll try to take some proper pics this weekend as I have a fairly casual wedding to attend.

I really wish Spier would come out with their standard chino in high rise.

Think you’d definitely notice if they literally had zero taper (think 12” hem openings or thereabouts) lol. I think they fit you quite well actually.

Thanks! Yeah, I just think they're less tapered than I thought they would be, and I wonder if that's because I had to hem about 10" off from the bottom of the original legs, haha. But thank you again and sorry about the poor lighting.

They must be doing inventory or organizing. Received a “back in stock” email on something from SS21 that’s been out of stock forever. Instant purchase for me.
I believe they've also added a lot to their MTO shirts. Either that or dropped prices on most of them. There are a lot of $69 options that I don't remember before.

Kind of a weird question and maybe more appropriate for the watch thread but I thought I'd start here. I am not a watch guy but for most of my life I felt naked without one, and usually wore a cheapo quartz Seiko that my mom got me from Costco. Its battery died around the same time I got a smartphone in 2010, and I never put a watch back on after that. I want to get back into it though, both for convenience and to address my vanity, but I don't really know where to start.

The watch thread is kind of overwhelming, but I see here that a lot of you guys regularly feature watches that harmonize nicely with the SM lewks, which is pretty much all I wear these days, so was wondering if anyone could provide any recommendations for two, a nicer one that goes with tailoring, i.e. not a diver, sport watch etc. and a more casual sport one for t-shirts, polos, etc.? I'm not a watch guy so no need to get some >$1000 thing with big diminishing returns but since this mostly is a romantic impractical item, I would probably prefer something with equally impractical automatic movement and upkeep requirements. Thanks!

Another brand that makes often-overlooked high quality automatic Swiss dress watches is Eterna. I bought a gorgeous brand new automatic (in-house movement) Eterna GMT watch in 2020 from Jomashop for $599 (regular retail was $3000). It is possible to find crazy good deals on Eterna watches like this if you look hard.

Good luck!

My credit card statement is not happy with you, but I am. Been scoping the off white DB since I saw it in the previews and your post made me check and sure enough there was one (and only one) in my size.

Back to the discussion of Speir, I've recently picked up some nice pieces and need to put some pictures up, but wanted to hip anyone living in a hot climate to the VBC mesh sportcoat. I almost didn't pick it up because one of the guys here shared his impression that it was too "sack like" but it went on sale and I figured that the worst that could happen was to send it back.

It is completely unstructured, so definitely veers casual (but sportcoats are inherently more casual anyway), but means it is right at home with polos/short sleeve button downs/tshirts/camp collar shirts/linen shirts for wear during the hot summer. It is still cut in a tailored jacket style though, so with a shirt and tie I don't think it would look out of place, you just have to be willing to accept that it won't drape the same way that something with a canvas or lining will.

I'm in New Orleans and the heat and humidity are brutal here. Even though the clubs I play at are air conditioned, it frequently struggles to keep up with the open door and it's not that comfortable to wear a full suit, so I've been buying unlined linen sportcoats to try out. They're great, but this VBC mesh is better.

It's mostly wool, so it doesn't get creased/wrinkled like linen, and it's super light and open weave so it wears cool. I dig the fabric too, it's a nice deep sage/olive green color with lighter flecks from the silk and linen, and has a nice texture to it. The Armoury used this fabric for a similar unstructured jacket this season (for 3 times the price!) and was one of their picks for the humid summers of Hong Kong (which was one of the reasons I was interested in this). I'm sure the Rust color is equally nice. Anyways if you live somewhere hot and want something that is very lightweight and breathable give this jacket a thought.

Thanks for the recommendation. Looks like exactly what I was looking for, but was always hesitant because you can never know how the jacket will perform in a real Mediterranean summer. So it's reassuring to learn from first hand this jacket actually lives up to its promise.

Has anyone had a sport coat made in the minis green glen check flannel (HMS-510029-MTO-J) has caught my eye and I'd love to see how it looks made up before pulling the trigger.

Haven't followed the thread in a while, can anyone let me know if the Neo cuts have been updated again to move the armholes down 1 cm?

Unknown. Customer service was cagey about it when I asked them. Wouldn't give me a straight answer- I suspect because they didn't know and didn't have an easy way to find out. There have been some reports of the updated armhole and breast pockets from posters here, but who knows which models are updated and which aren't? Pretty sure it's a mix of both until F/W rolls out.

Does S&M usually have more tweeds and heavier sportscoat fabrics available towards the winter? I'm looking for something like the Marling & Evans - Dark Brown Herringbone/S1592/15575/D5-MTO-J.

They do seasonal runs so, in short, yes. They will likely have some tweeds OTR. This was actually one that I was hoping to see FW22 as well..Or some version of a cool/cold brown herringbone tweed, i.e. less red undertone.
