Ok, here's a few candid shots of the Solaro DB I its first outing. It wrinkles more than other suits I have, and I'd like to add buttons for braces to keep the waist at the proper level around my chunky midsection, and potentially I might ask my tailor to let out the waist in the jacket just a smidge (although it buttons easily and feels close but loose) but all in all I'm pleased. It's supremely comfortable to wear.

Crummy week, seeing these pictures warmed me up a bit. Hope you enjoyed the outing man.

Good stuff. Nice photos. Kiddo’s lookin sharp.
Mind my asking your dimensions/size you took? The DB is tempting, but I’m leaning pretty hard on the RTW silhouette being a bit too dicey to flatter my frame.

Hi all! I'm hoping you fine gents can help an American out. I'm replacing my old suits and looking to get a navy hopsack, light gray tropical and dark gray travel to cover most of my bases. I've tried to get in touch with spier and haven't gotten anyone by email or phone. I want to use the 20% coupon a friend gave me so I'd like to purchase all together but sizing worries me.

I'm 5'8.5 and 160 lbs and well built as I lift often. My chest measures 40 inches and waist 33 but I wear a 38s in suit supply havana and Lazio and 32 pants in suit supply (32 for jeans and chinos too but they have enough room I usually need a belt). My jcrew ludlows were 39s and actually bunched a bit at the lapels. Otherwise they fit fine.

I can't decide between a 38s or 40s. It almost seems like 40s by pure measurements but I just went into suit supply and 38s fit great and 40s I was swimming in. Perhaps I have weird measurements that just don't conform? Seems most think suit supply havana fit would mirror spier contemporary.

Thanks for any and all help!

Don’t get the short version, no matter which size you choose between 38 and 40.

I echo the above, not to get the short. You and I are of similar build, though you may be a bit fuller in the chest than I am. I can wear my 38 jackets in Spier, but next time I'll buy 40. My guess is that 40R Contemp is the way to go for you!

I don't know if it's my proportions or not but regulars are too long. They go past my butt and down to my first finger knuckles. The sleeves are also a good inch too long. I can take a pic maybe of a regular I have to show you. I may have longer legs and a shorter torso. The short in suit supply covered 90% of my butt, hit between first two thumb knuckles. The sleeves were a bit short but spiers sleeves appear longer.

My brother's ulster coat has arrived! He's a 42 and I'm somewhere between a 38/40 so it's absolutely massive on me, but the length is quite nice. I ultimately decided on the trench coat so I'm waiting for that to arrive.

On a random note I've got a super noob question, what does CM stand for?

Apologies for the crap lighting and messy closet, whole family has been sick and this is the only place I could really get a pic. Hopefully you see what I mean on the regular fits though. It's not horrific but feels long to me. Makes my legs look kind of short in my opinion. 20211016_120724.jpg 20211016_120746.jpg 20211016_120740.jpg

This is the very first time I've seen in this thread where a S&M jacket actually looked too long, your intuition is correct IMO.

Your proportions should dictate your choice here, not comparisons in height/weight. I’m 5’9 and take a short, appears that would be your best bet as well.

My apologies I should have been more clear. This will be my first spier purchase. That is an old jcrew jacket but I measured its length and sleeves and they're about an inch longer than spier short which to me seems it would be a good fit. Thank you for the feedback.

Trying to place order but getting 404 at payment screen. Anyone else?
Fixed! Issue was with a particular item

An honor to be graced by your 3rd post ever in the 8 years you're in SF.

Get the short. Don't listen to most of the guys here as they'll just recommend Regular no matter what your proportions are.
