Any 5'7" guys in here care to speak to pant size inseam tailoring for a half-break fit? Looking online, seeing that a 26-27" inseam is appropriate for most guys in that height bracket.

I'm 5'8", and I like no break in most pants. My inseam when I do that is 27 or 27 1/2, depending on the pants. I hope this helps.

@spiermackay -- How about offering different pant width in the RTW suits. I'm a 38S jacket but pants are 31 width, so the 32 width even if inseam adjusted by S&M tailoring would be too wide.

You really need to see about getting measured or measuring the inseam of a pair of pants that fit you well. There's so much variation to leg length that this strategy likely isn't going to turn out like you want.

You should get measured, or take your pants to an in person tailor to dial this in. Inseam tends to vary greatly, especially when you factor in rise, where the waist sits, etc. I’m 5’8”, but take a 29.5” inseam on trousers in order to get about a half break . Seeing other responses , inseam can vary amongst the same height range.

Went ahead and measured crotch to ankle measures between 26-28". On pants that fit half-break/full-break it's 26", for my actual leg crotch to knee then to ankle is around 28".

I might be in need of an education here...but why would the rise impact the inseam? Doesn't a higher rise just mean it sits higher on your waist...and the inseam starts at the same place regardless?

Great question, only answer I have is idk. Somewhere in my experience and with the varying measurements in rise, leg opening , taper, etc, I’ve had my tailor adjust inseam slightly in either direction to achieve a better line. It’s not a great variance, it’s always generally in the same range around 29.5 for me, but that exact inseam doesn’t always give me the fit I want, or hit my shoes the way I want it to.

Found this video, pretty helpful -- .

Put on a pair of pants that are too big for you -- say a 31x30. Roll the cuff to the desired break. Measure the length of the cuff, and subtract the pant length minus the cuff length to get your inseam. In this instance I cuffed my pants approximately 3" to get a no break, and 30-3 = 27" inseam.

Update* you'd want to use a pair of pants never washed, that way they're the complete length, rather than having shrunk in the wash. If you don't have a tailor or someone who will measure for you, take a tape measure when trying on pants at a department store.

I mean, realistically 1/2" here or there only makes a difference in fit pics, right? As you go throughout your day, your pants are going to migrate up and down on your waist slightly and the break against your shoes will be adjusted at the same time whether you want it to or not.

I guess it may come down to preference, but when I am getting my pants hemmed, I will position them in the ideal spot on my waist and hem from that position. To me, an extra half inch in either direction would not be an acceptable fit, because then I’d have the start of some puddling at the ankle or they would start to lift away from my shoes and float around. To me at least, getting the ideal length as a starting point will mitigate the extremity of fit changes from the daily movement that may occur.
