Ordered some hoodies Feb 27th which shipped yesterday and arrived this morning. Concierge mentioned there were two packages from UPS which struck me as odd, but I figured maybe S&M just packaged the sweaters in two boxes.

Much to my surprise, my custom dress shirt arrived!

Ordered MTO on Feb 3, arrived Mar 4. Incredible!
When/if you can, please post some pics and provide feedback on the custom dress shirts and your experience with MTO. I’ve been on the fence about MTO shirts for a while but have had success with MTO trews. Many thanks.

How do you like the results (dimensions, fabric, etc.) of the custom dress shirt? I was thinking of trying this for the first time. Was just going to measure an off the rack shirt that seems to fit me pretty good and use that as a starting point. I seem to be in between their slim and extra slim dimensions.

I've just thrown the shirt in for a cold wash, will try to get some pics in later in the day after ironing.

Initial impressions are great. For reference, I've gotten MTM shirts from S&M in store in the past, however with the lockdown in effect I decided to try out MTO. I had snapped a picture of my body measurements from my MTM order and re-measured at home to account for the Covid-15 I've gained. Will post more later!

I agree, I don't mind the wait at all.

Yeah for sure, if it's 6 days for hemming, it's actually less time than it would take me to take the time to go to the tailor, drop them off, wait, and pick them up, so at $8 it's a bargain on both money and time.
Quick update: I received my 3 trousers yesterday March 3rd, all perfectly hemmed to my specifications (2 cuff, 1 straight hem).

Order placed Feb 19th, shipped on Feb 25th, received on March 3rd.

I will definitely be using the S&M hemming service again.

I suspect that this question may have been answered before so apologies for not finding the answer in all the threads.

I'm curious about the differences between the base navy hopsack blazer (Filarte) vs Guabello navy hopsack vs E Thomas navy hopsack. I'm going to pull the trigger on one of them but was having a hard time discerning the differences.

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I haven't been able to find any answer on their site in terms of what criteria constitutes a slim fit or a contemporary fit. I don't know which to choose.

For myself, I have an athletic/muscular build. My shoulder width is approx. 16". My waist size is 30" approx, all around.

I’ve owned the guabello and the filarte. I decided to keep the guabello since it’s an Italian fabric, the quarter lining is navy and the color is also a dark navy vs the filarte which is a Chinese fabric with a red quarter lining and nice navy color just not as dark as the guabello

I own both the Filarte and the Guabello. See the picture below, Filarte on the left, Guabello on the right.
  • Filarte is baseline, all-season fabric
  • Guabello is premium fabric, still all-season, I would say it feels more luxurious than the Filarte, with more texture
  • EThomas is super premium fabric, but it's a seasonal warm-weather fabric per S&M. The texture is dialed up to the max, see pictures from other members who have it. Everyone who has it seems to rave about it.
This reply form S&M may help.

Check out the texture on Ethomas:

Here's the wrinkle resistant Purple Bengal Stripe MTO after a cold wash and iron. I think the only things I would adjust moving forward are a slightly shorter sleeve, and a bigger left cuff. I used to get my left cuff much larger to account for some gaudy watches I would wear, but I've since switched to smaller watches and adjusted accordingly, though it seems I over-corrected.

The closest shirt OTR that fits is a 15.5. Slim fits me perfectly everywhere except for my stomach, and even a contemporary is a bit snug around the stomach while the upper body and arms are a bit puffy (it's like I have the proportions of someone who is 4 months pregnant :rotflmao:) I've had shirts MTM from S&M in store and those worked out well. I used the body measurements instead of shirt measurements for this MTO.

In terms of fabric, this feels soft to the touch and seems to be resistant to wrinkles, as expected. It's also very light and airy, which is great for someone like me who runs hot year round. Doesn't seem like there was much shrinkage at all after this first wash.

They have measurements for all their clothes so I would base it on that and your existing clothes. The main thing I found is that slim has much narrower arms which they don't mention in the measurements. For example, I have 16.5 inch arms and a slim 38 is unwearable small for arms, while a contemporary 38 fits very well while allowing me to layer sweaters underneath.

I provided a pic of all three SCs side by side together with an explanation of the difference between all three a couple of months ago. Scroll through the picture gallery and you'll find the post.

Is there an extra charge for adding a Milanese buttonhole to MTO orders?

Thank you, that's very helpful! I've hardly seen any reviews of SM mto shirting...
The shot with the sportcoat is ?!
(Cream and purple pairing looks freaking awesome!)

I'm waiting for my first custom shirt now (shipped yesterday, 4 weeks precisely since placing and order). Hope it'll turn out good!

Can anyone speak on the arm widths between Slim and Contemporary sport coats? I usually get Contemporary, but one of the jackets just sold out. Thinking of trying the slim version. I'm not sure if they would be able to fit my guns.

That sounds incredibly douchey, so I'll assume you're joking lol. Slim is obviously slimmer, but if you can fit the arms on a contemporary SC without seriously straining the seams, you'll be fine.
