Has anyone machine washed your covert trousers? it says dry clean only, but wondering if hand or machine washing will be that terrible.

Ok - I'm not really a big S&M buyer, so not really up on the brand, however, thought it was odd that they would raise prices for black friday

To summarize - they ran a liquidation sale on suits and sportscoats mid-month that were most likely odd sizes left over from other sales they've been forced, like most other companies during this climate, to hold to turn over inventory.

Having to raise prices back on those particular items just signals that the margins are already extremely thin.

It makes sense that the BF discount doesn't stack on those prices and to be honest as much as we all appreciate a great deal (or steal) most of us in this thread don't want to see Rick have to resort to that to survive.

Does anyone have any experience with their wool Field jacket/coat? I am interested and they seem pretty smart looking. I have never worn their jackets or coats, so would appreciate input about the lining, fabric feel and quality, etc.

I have one. Fit is great for me going by the suit jacket size, and the fabric feels like a durable fabric with a soft hand. It is right between a British Tweed and a Italian Mill Fabric. Worth a buy IMO

I had same problem when I first tried them. I originally ordered size 28 Extra Slim & 28 Slim. The 28 was able to be buttoned with slight struggle, but Extra Slim was way too tight in seat/thigh, with the Slim being better however it had too large of a leg opening and not much taper for me. Going up a size to a 30 Extra Slim helped solve all these problems, ideally I would be a 29 Extra Slim.

Can you imagine if you could take an additional 20% off on that liquidation sale???
Rick might as well ask you to take whatever coats you want and then pay you for it.

following the topic about shrinkage. Are we expected the same % of shrinkage (8-10%) in the knit wear? I.e. Crewnecks, turtlenecks and long sleeve knit polos? Do we need to size up? Has anyone have any experience?

Theirs's more to the it than the bottom - line, (imho) Lockdown, Employees And People, Who Have Families, At this price if you got it (pitch in), It's Easier Said Than Done. Just my .0002

To some it may seem strange but if you ask me it was a strategic decision to the run the liquidation sale before Black Friday.

Anyone that has been following SM knows that the majority of those pieces have been discounted for a while. By reducing the prices before Black Friday I expect Rick and his team were hoping to cash in on buyers who may or may not have been on the fence. As you've already indicated, the discounted prices were better than 20% off which is typically the most that SM will discount. Any savvy follower would have picked up a piece (or two or three).

Most retailers are competing for the same limited 'available' funds for Black Friday/Cyber Monday and with everyone holding out for that 'steal' all they did was just try to get in on that bank earlier.

I hope this doesn't negatively affect your opinion on the SM brand because inflating 'original' or discounted prices before a sale is absolutely not a practice they follow.

the email they sent out announcing the sportcoat blowout noted that it was to clear inventory and raise cash- my guess is that they’ve been bleeding cash due to COVID/reduced sales. I imagine their margins are thin as it is, if they allowed a discount on top of those prices they would certainly be losing money.

S&M has great prices when you look at the fabric offerings and construction quality compared to competitors- this demand SF/this thread seems to continue to have that they drop their prices even lower is frankly ridiculous, especially when a (relatively) small business is trying to survive an insane year.
