All Spier today for Sport Coat Friday at the office (I am the only ones who participates, sadly). Pants are the Off-White Cotton Dress Trousers and the shirt is the latest linen buttondown. I was curious how the white and off-white would pair together, but I like it. I will say that making and eating lunch today (an heirloom tomato sandwich) was a bit nerve-wracking.

With all this talk about BB filing for bankruptcy I started looking through old catalogues online. I’m not usually a trad guy and prefer the Italian style like spiers neo cut but I would love a sack cut sport coat or blazer like this picture. I wonder if SM could make something like this or it can be done MTO. There are some other companies making this style now but the lapels aren’t the same. The lapels seem smaller and the gorge higher. This picture looks kind of like spiers lowered gorge they are doing in mto. View attachment 1421731
Oof, personally can't stand sack jackets.

Trad Americana looks are passé in my mind.

My bank account will be in serious trouble if S&M starts offering Trad/Ivy sport coats. There are very few options for sack, 3/2 sport coats these days. J. Press and O'Connell's? And they're priced well above S&M.

I feel like buying neo cut in contemporary and letting out the waist completely would look pretty sack-y

Those are the only two brands I know that offer them but the lapels don’t look like that old BB picture. They look slimmer and the gorge is higher. Also looking at those old BB pictures they don’t seem boxy like many people think of as a sack jacket. I bet they got boxy later to accommodate bigger waists. SM could do a killer undarted trim fit version.

Sid Mashburn makes a nice sack, but again higher gorge and somewhat slim lapel(3.25 inches).

I would be interested in a sack cut with those old school lapels. Sometimes it is nice to switch it up, especially with a fabric like tweed.

I see the appeal for swelled edges on casual jackets, but I don't understand the appeal for a pure, undarted sack cut. Maybe on a highly patterned jacket for more perfect pattern matching?

Darting adds quite a bit of shape to the waist.

Without it, combining big, square pockets with square flaps adds a nice chunk to the midsection.

Not necessarily in a bad way. Sack suits are good enough for Don Draper.
