Finally got my delivery and the suit I was most excited about has a bad lapel (photo right). The fold goes well below the button hole and seems to be firmly ingrained in that position. First saw it and had to double check that it wasn't a 32roll.

Now out of stock in my size. Doesn't look good buttoned or unbuttoned. Kind of surprised something like this got through QC but I guess with a quick glance over it could be missed.

Thoughts? Return it? @spiermackay

I always redo the lapel roll on all the jackets purchased online. Just iron it to your preference.

How much are you needing? My Olive linen has nearly 1.5" on the back and about 1/2" on the sides.
That would be enough. I'll have to measure whats there. I just eye balled it. I have both the Navy DB linen and the E-Thomas faded Guncheck that need some room.

Good morning.

Very nice, items fit well and compliment each other very nicely.

I like this!

Me Too!

Here's the sage cotton linen in my usual 38s contemporary. I know i'm standing a bit askew, but I need to know if the problems in the back can be fixed. My tailor's closed thanks to the pandemic and I don't want to keep it past the return period if the fabric bunching is indeed irreparable.

It looks like minor alterations. Would keep if it were me.

Looks great from the front, the back looks like it could use a slight tuck in the center seam in the upper back to clean it up just a bit. Oddly, from the back it looks like it could use a bit more room in the middle (around your mid section) but from the front it looks good.

Recommendation, keep it, and have your tailor look at it when you are able to do that.

Traditional seersucker came in. First thoughts:

No crease
No belt loop on extended waistband
Feels roomy and not nearly as crispy compared to the seersucker suit
So light and breezy

Unsure about it just yet

Crease is an easy fix if wanted.
I've honestly stopped used the loop on mine; I just fasten band over loop.
Roomy/less crispy sounds like a positive in a summer suit

Sounds like a win to me; the choice of shoes for try on certainly help!

I have an email out to @spiermackay 's excellent customer service team, but wondering if anyone else noticed that the Minnis Fresco have been added back to MTO, but at a $340 price increase since the new site launched ($758 --> $1098). It's enough of an increase that I wonder if it's a mistake? By the time you add on the full-canvas up-charge, it's not quite the deal it once was.

Anyone successfully let out the waist of a Spier Sport Coat? Is there enough fabric on the Neo coats?

The latest few 44's I have gotten could stand for a little more room in the waist and there doesn't seem to be a lot of extra fabric at the side or back seams.

I think I've had almost every jacket from S&M let out at the waist, and then tightened up a little bit around the upper back/shoulders.

Attached is the Navy Angelico I got a while back. The bottom of the jacket in the picture was let out as far as possible (approx an inch), and the red line at the top shows where the center seam used to be.

Hey guys. Just received my first ever suit order, a 40L Contemporary Fit from S&M. The quality is great, but I’m pretty sure the size/fit is wrong for me. Any feedback more knowledgeable folks than me can offer would be greatly appreciated. As I mentioned, this would be my first suit, so I’m inexperienced at spotting the important details.

My observations nonetheless:

Jacket:
-Shoulder width seems correct
-Overall length of jacket seems correct?
-Armholes too low?
-Sleeves much too long (fixable?)
-Boxy fit. This is a 40L so contemporary fit was the only option I saw. I’m a fan of more classic tailoring though so I probably would’ve chosen this anyway. Not sure if the boxiness would be relieved by tailoring or whether a different size/cut would be necessary. I don’t think they make a slim fit in 40L

Trousers:
I think these might be fine. They might be slightly snug in the crotch area but I’m not sure. They do feel correct in the waist to me.

By the way, I’m returning the shirt for fit reasons but I figured I could wear it to test the suit’s fit.

Thanks guys!

I think the fit is fine. You can certainly shorten the sleeves and take in the waist (if you wanted to). Otherwise I think it’s acceptable everywhere else. Well, the upper back might be a bit messy, but not sure what you can do about that (others can chime in).

And yes, Slim doesn't come in long sizes, only Contemporary does.

I'm curious what other guys on this thread think, but I find the Spier&Mackay shirt sleeves to be way too wide. The body of the Slim Fit shirt fits me great, but the sleeves just billow, compared to my Charles Tyrwhitt and G.Inglese shirts. Maybe my biceps and forearms are too small. I just found it a bit odd since I don't have any issue with the suit jackets and its sleeve width.

Does that change the way the jacket drapes?

In my case, S&M jackets OTR often have a lot of extra fabric around the upper back/shoulders so it's quite puffy, but from the front it looks fine. I suppose it's just the outcome of my posture and shoulder stance.
