I have the charcoal soft parka you are looking at. It is fairly warm and I'd say is well-suited to the coldest winter weather where I am (~35-40F) but I wouldn't use it for anything colder than that. I bought the parka in a size 42, and it fits well for layering with knitware or a shirt but I'd size up if you're looking to wear it over a suit (I'm a size 42 Slim for Sport Coats). I can't comment on your question about snow as it doesn't snow where I am but I'd say generally that wool is naturally somewhat water-resistant.

One last thing to note is that while the hood is removable I think it looks better in general with the hood on.

Sorry - not trying to trollbait here, but with this being the same price as a Barbour Bedale at MSRP (and currently it's looking like you can get the Bedale on sale for around $300USD), what is the value proposition of the waxed touring jacket? I do understand that it has a removable zip out quilted layer and a belt which the Barbour Bedale doesn't have - but if you can get the "real deal" for $300, why would you buy the Spier and Mackay version at $398 MSRP?
Thank you for the information!

Anyone planning on visiting the new store next week? I'm curious if they will carry more current season tailored clothing on the floor. I used to go to the previous store but it seemed like all the items I wanted to check out were in the warehouse.

Curious about this as well. Hoping to drop in tomorrow and will report back.

Sorry to bring this back around, but on the soft parkas how does the hood remove? Does it leave an ugly zipper or something where you can see that a hood should attach there?

I have a few questions about fit. This is a 38R Slim. Should I get the 40R Slim? As for the return policy, it looks like the first return is free. But for suits, each return is $14.95. Is that per suit or per order?

I recently discovered Spier & Mackay and I'm really liking it so far. I've got high rise trousers, the balmacaan coat, and some merino sweaters. All are fantastic.

I am now thinking about purchasing a suit. I went to suitsupply because I'm in the US. The Havana 42 jacket fit very good. My issue with SS is the pants. They aren't great. I see that SM offers some suits with high rise pants, which is enticing. Would the slim Neo cut suit jacket fit similar to the Havana? What would the differences be?

If anything, this already looks too large, but if I were you, I would keep it.

Considering the touring jacket questions:
I recently purchased the "non touring" waxed jacket. It's a very nice jacket. I owned Barbour in the past, but I think I like this one better. Partly because it does not have a Barbour label. I usually wear XL (which I also purchased )and I wish I had purchased L, it's too large for me around the back and the sleeves are too long too. Since I live in Germany, returning is quite expensive and I just kept it. However, I might even buy another one in the future.

It's per clothing type. They give you a free return to help dial in your size. I pasted the terms a couple days ago.

Thanks. I should have looked at that before. I would have ordered a bunch of different sizes. I usually hate doing that because it guarantees a return, which I hate to do. However, I see the benefits of that from their standpoint.

Can anyone help me find some info on a VBC double-breasted navy jacket I picked up off the Bay?

Fabric: 874.601/5964
Style: 322152-DB
PO#: FW20-PG-71

It's definitely a heavier weight wool, and it looks like it's probably 350g: https://armafabrics.gr/en/product/a...08Oca4ioRsBe9ZVV-TYq0uqV1dZfj3lnhgdO99qbZbx3A

What I'm really curious about is the shoulders. There's actual padding in these shoulders. Not a lot, but more than any of my other S&M jackets, which I really did not expect when I purchased it. It didn't even occur to me to ask if the shoulders were unpadded because it's S&M. I like it, but I was hoping someone may be able to give me a little more information on it (an old product page would, of course, be fantastic).

It might be the Neo 3 style. I have a jacket in that style. I love it.

Is anyone here familiar with Guangqin Textiles? They have a few linens that look interesting under Spier and Mackay's MTO program, but I can't find any information about their fabrics.

Thanks, but there's definitely no roping to the sleeves. Regular spalla camicia on the shoulders.

I have another S&M double breasted blazer that seems to have much wider lapels than this one, too. That other blazer is currently at the cleaners, but when it comes back, I'll try to get pictures of both.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
