Hey gents. I'm about to order my first SM MTO jacket and I'm stuck on lapels. I'm 5'8" 150 lbs. -lean and athletic- and the wide Neo lapels are just disproportionate to my body. The MTO Neo comes with the option of a narrower 3.5" lapel but I wonder if the Neo roll would even work on a narrower lapel? Has anyone tried this? I could also order the regular sportcoat cut with a 3.75" lapel and request a 3/2 and negative belly in notes. I'm just really wary about messing around with lapel proportions. I love that belly and sweet 3/2 roll but I'd rather go without it than risk a lapel that attempts it but fails.

Also, on a related note, does the 3/2 Neo cut look incongruous with English tweeds? Or is it a happy fusion of Italian style and British fabric?

Imo can work as well w English tweed as any other brand w such influences, which is to say just fine. I personally find myself liking a wide 2 button lapel w a straight lapel more for tweed and flannel these days.

For me, consistency first. The trousers aren't consistent in sizing from one to another.
The waists are a pain to deal with. I wear size 28 for most, and SM size 28 is too small and size 30 is too big. There's a big gap b/w the two sizes. They should have in between sizes to address that or have the gaps b/w sizes not as massive.
The back rise should generally be a bit higher - often get bunching below the glutes.

I'm glad to find I'm not the only one with this issue. I love the S&M brand and the styling but sizing is so inconsistent and I find this mostly rears it's head with the trousers. I have ordered multiple pairs of trousers in the same size and find some fit perfectly on the waist, some are a little roomy even whilst others are still too tight even if I have them let out as far as they can go. In future I think I'm just going to have to order the size up and have them altered on the basis that it's easier to take in than let out.
Although when you start including the cost of waist alterations, hemming and tapering, you do start questioning the value proposition...

I've also found this an issue (albeit less so) with their shirts. I've got 5 or 6 all in the same size - some are a perfect fit, some are a bit big if anything and others have been too small straight out the packet.

I've had quite a bit of trouble with the trousers as well (even with MTO using the same measurements), but the knitwear is by far the worst. I've had body and arm length vary with as much as 3 whole inches in the same size. That's about the same difference as an XS compared to an XL according to the size charts, but within the same size. It would be comical if it wasn't also so frustrating and expensive.

On a different note, I'm wondering if anyone has tried both the overshirts (the 4 or 3 pocket ones) and the chore coats? How different is the fit of the chore coat? I'm tempted by the denim chore coat, but the size chart suggests that it's roomier than the overshirts. The overshirts fit me quite well, but is right on the limit of being too slouchy as is.

Unfortunately inconsistent sizing isn’t limited to S&M. I’ve had multiple items from Anglo Italian be a full size off the tagged size according to the the size chart. I thought as price went up, this would be less of an issue, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Anyone know when they typically release chinos? Seems like they've been out of stock on most of them forever. I need a few more pairs.

Anyone able to advise on the following,
1) Whether we can select other pant sizes for suit purchases
2) For the following MTO item, https://www.spierandmackay.com/product/vbc---gray--brown-check-2225185-mto-j-fw21 am not able to customize or find the fabric

Does this mean the product is already sold out?

In regards to pant sizes you can put it in the comments "please send slim 32 instead of 34"). But check beforehand that the size your pants would normally come with are in stock. So if you order a 40r suit but need 32 pants, make sure the 38r is in stock or they may not be able to swap.

No idea on MTO stuff

My guess is next release would be in the fall/winter. They released some of the garment dyed ones this spring I believe, and maybe some regular ones, but that’s it likely for the SS22 season is my guess

Yes, making the lapel 3.5” instead of 4” shouldn’t mess with the roll too much. 3.5” is still a generous lapel.

Spier has made plenty of tweed jackets in their neopolitan cut, and they’re on the website if you want to see. I think they look good. If you’re thinking about getting one MTO, go with 1/4” pick stitching and request a swelled edge, I think it really ties the look together.

Speaking of the tobacco Fox Air suit, anyone have trousers in a 33 cont. they want to part with?

I got the 38L suit and the pleats on the 32 cont. won't lay flat.

Anyone experienced shrinking on the linen dress shirts? Thanks.

Did thoes just get released? I was eyeballing their linen, but totally msised those.
Do you guys buy your SM linen shirts in the same size as the cotton? I sometimes find with most shirtmakers that the linens can be a bit roomier than the cotton in the same size, so I'm curious what others do.

For MTO trousers, does anyone know how spier measures Thigh and Knee?
