I happened to spy a possible 2011 BMW "M" version of their 1 series while in Siena and have to admit it is a fun looking little car

more from MotorTrend on what to expect perfornace-wise (kind of disappointing since the power isn't going up, just suspension tuning)

more here, too, talking about a 300 hp turbo 4 cylinder to cut weight, instead using or tuning the current V6 300 hp twin turbo in the current 135i

wish it had wider wheels

Looks interesting, but I still wish they'd bring over the hatch.

The engine is already perfect. They should concentrate on making a minimalist sports car - cut all the weight and junk out, and tune up the suspension. Would be perfect.

Seriously, 1-series are an amazing ******* value already if you talk about 135i... I would take a 135i with a chip, exhaust, and stiffer springs over an M3. Crazy, I know.

Are you totally sure someone didn't just slap an ///M badge on a 1er?

PS- The current 135er has a straight six. Not a V. (In fact, all 1er/3er's have had straight sixes [or fours])

That's what I thought, the M badge actually looks crooked..

I'm probably just about to reveal my car-related ignorance, but what would prevent any idiot from sticking an 'M' badge onto a regular 1-series? Many European BMW drivers are the sort of people who would consider doing that.

It would fool regular people, but not those who know M-series pretty well.

My understanding is that all the ///M's have quad exhausts?

Sorry man, I just could not fathom giving up the sound and power of the V8 to go with the inline 6, half the experience for me is the soul of the M, and not so much the sprinting power..

According to this Americans are more likely to falsely badge their own cars: http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/11/r...discreet-look/
