Speaking of velvet...

Hello,

I just picked up an Etro deep blue velvet jacket and I'm looking for advice on what to pair with it. It is unlined and fits beautifully. The look could best be described as soft and slouchy lounge.

I could go with slim grey slacks and an off-white cashmere turtleneck with brown or black shoes, but that may be one medallion away from Bob Guccione.

One the other hand, I could ditch the sweater and use an Etro shirt brimming with pinks and oranges, but would that leave the pants looking rather tepid?

Perhaps a heavily patterned pant? I have no fear.

Has anyone in NY used Ramón Diaz on Mott Street for alterations?

I think grey is a grey idea, but I'd be wary of the white or off white turtleneck. You don't want to look like Steinbrenner.

No, very cool. You can wear it with about anything, but I would also stay away from the turtleneck. Grey pants, purple pants, green pants, jeans, anything other than a similar shade of navy or black. Brightly striped shirt with a subtle POW plaid pant and reddish-brown patinated ankle boots would be the ultimate.

Decided to go with a plaid pant, brown Gucci boots and one of my more colourful Etro shirts.

Just needed someone to knock my upside the head about the sweater. Still shuddering at the Steinbrenner pic.

I really love the look of velvet jackets, but I find them a bit heavy for indoor wear. Does anyone else have this problem? They are good as a kind of outdoor blazer, like a tweed blazer, but seem a bit too formal for use in this way. So, though I love them, I find slighly impractical - especially with most buildings being heated the way they are.

Also, they seem to have been in fashion for quite a while now - do you think think this will continue in the near future? Are they really a classic piece that will always be an acceptable part of a man's wardrobe? Certainly in the form of a smoking jacket, this is the case, but has the casual velvet blazer now become a staple? I think it is attractive enough to warrant that position. It's slight foppishness does not bar it from achieving this status, in my opinion, but its impracticality may...What do others think?

Also, does anyone know where most velvet is produced now and where you can buy the fabric.
