I went to one of my favorite restaurants tonight for supper, and had a wonderful meal of country fried steak (although I must say, as something of an aside, the rather alarming change the establishment has made in the past two years with its new chef is, not good. They have a tapas menu now, for example), wedge of lettuce, and pole beans.
Said restaurant is easily one of the top three southern food restaurants in Atlanta, which has dozens of excellent southern food options.
At any rate I realized that there is no finer regional cuisine than that of Dixie's. And by regional I mean American regional, although, good southern food could give most of the rest of the world's food a solid run for the money IMO.
With that in mind: here is a thread to appreciate the exquisite food that is southern food. And I will be lenient and include soul food in this, as its genesis was in the South.
My chicken fried steak was almost transcendentally good. Even though there must have been a tablespoon of grease left on the plate when all was said and done.
