Sore back from nightly sleep, but not from long naps?

Any clues why I would have a sore back from a normal night of sleep?

When I work an odd schedule and then sleep for 2-4 hours during the day, I feel totally fine. I feel like I get better sleep during these naps as well.

Sleep on your stomach? And nap in some other position?

Happens to me as well. Back stretches will take care of it eventually.

You're seriously asking for help with how to sleep?

How do you sleep? Do you twist and contort into weird positions while sleeping for extended periods? Do you sleep on your side?

I am a side sleeper, but I don't have back problems. Every once in a blue moon, I'll wake up with a sore neck or back. It's usually the result of an awkward head or neck position on a pillow or a lady's boob.

Sleep on your back with a pillow under your knee/lower legs. By elevating your legs a bit, you put your lower back in a more neutral position. If you sleep on your side, place a pillow between your legs, again for the same reason. Also try a harder bed. I sleep on the floor on a shiki-futon and since I started doing that, back pain is pretty much gone.

I assume you're not entertaining many female visitors in said futon?

Sounds like you need a new mattress

Married for 16 years. I'm doing well, thanks for asking.

Mattress might be the problem. Where do you take your naps? Even if in the same bed, it might be prolonged use that upsets your back. Make sure you stretch your back out and have some strong core muscles. Drink a lot of water.

Although the OP seems to be gone there are two important things to consider with back pain in the am:

1) bad mattress
2) Autoimmune disorder which typically are worse in the morning: lupus, rheumatoid, etc..
