That video is great, tween. steveo, the video you posted is horrifying in a Greek tragedy sort of way. I found myself slightly offended when I realized it was a commercial for jewelry. I was looking for a clip from Gus Van Sant's Gerry (ideally with Spiegel im Spiegel by Arvo Part playing), but I could only find trailers. Instead I'll post this by Arvo Part. It's one of my favorite pieces of music. And here's another favorite piece of music (no, seriously, I love this song).

Those places are cool to look at, and I love them and everything, but I dunno how I'd feel living in one.

I'd move in the first place in a heartbeat, I'd play sweet experimental but authentic music while drinking tea and watching passers-by down in the street.

Yeah, the first place actually looks really nice. Reminds me of the eating scene in Departures, with all those plants. Wish I could find a screencap

A shop in a church by Merkx + Girod Architecten

Dutch architects Merkx + Girod have won the Lensvelt de Architect Interior Prize 2007 for their Boekhandel Selexyz Dominicanen in Maastricht – a bookstore inside a former Dominican church.

The prize jury said: “Merkx+Girod architects have created a contemporary bookshop in a former Dominican church, preserving the unique landmark setting. The church has been restored to its former glory and the utilities equipment has been housed in the extended cellar.

“In order to preserve the character of the church while achieving the desired commercial square footage, the architects erected a two-storey structure in black steel on one side, where the books are kept. Keeping the shop arrangement on the other side low created a clear and decipherable shop. The jury was very impressed by these spatial solutions, as well as by the gorgeous lighting plan. The combination of book complex and church interior were deemed particularly successful.”

There's something I always found stirring about this series. Fog is typically so ominous, but in this context, at least for me, it's less about the obstruction and lack of visibility, and more about the unsettling confidence in the safety of being enveloped in a gaseous, visible poison.

It is "blocked in [my] country on copyright grounds." !? :fu:

I've always loved Japanese interior design. So clean and calm (I like the low height of the furniture; it gives you space). My friends used to tell me that my bedroom looked like a monk lived there. It was pretty spare. Difficult to do now with a wife and dog in a small Brooklyn apartment.

Ah I study in Maastricht where this bookstore is. It's a bit disappointing in the flesh.. Somehow it always looks better in pictures than in real life, and the small bookstore down the block even has a better selection of books.[IMG]

The cafe in the back makes great coffee though. [IMG]
