Thank god I worked retail for as long as I did, I developed selective hearing techniques that make me impervious to all that crap.

Then again, occasionally I'll get 80's movie themes stuck in my head like Cyndi Lauper - Goonies R Good Enough, and Queen - Flash's Theme stuck in my head. But I think its just because pretty much every peice of those movies floats around in my head on a constant basis.

The theme to The Andy Griffith Show. You hear that whistled tune and it will be stuck in your head for months.

see, this is why i listen to post-rock instrumental.

a small sampling of tunes that have afflicted me over the years:

We Built this City (On Rock 'N' Roll) - Starplane Airblimp
It's Hip to Be Square - Huey Lewis
River of Dreams - Billy Joel
    Sussudio
    Dancing Queen - ABBA
    Total Eclipse of the Heart
I Just Died in your Arms Tonight

Bradford: how about Dora the Explorer? *shudder* ...others:

    Maisy
    Miffy and Friends
Maggie and the Ferocious Beast (quite a catchy theme song)

You know what? I was doing fine, and then you post this.

    DAMN YOU!

Does anyone else tend to get jazz standards stuck in their heads? I had Bourbon Street Blues stuck in my head for about a week.

I used to, all the time, when I was in the jazz band and listened to jazz a lot in high school. "Don't get around much anymore" was one of them that I specifically remember.

Oh yeah, and every time I read, hear or think about Niger (yellowcake) I think of "Making Plans for Nigel" by XTC and it gets stuck for a day or so. It's pleasant, though. I had this mental image back in '03 of Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld and Powell standing around with guitars and singing about "making plans for Niger". [IMG]

Just when I thought I didn't have a problem with songs getting stuck in my head, Mandy by Barry Manilow got lodged firmly inside my noggin and won't budge.

Thanks, guys. Thanks a whole hell of a lot! [IMG]

    I remember all my life
raining down as cold as ice.
    Shadows of a man,
a face through a window cryin' in the night,
    the night goes into

    Morning just another day;
    happy people pass my way.
    Looking in their eyes,
    I see a memory I never realized
    how happy you made me.

    Oh Mandy well,
you came and you gave without taking,
    but I sent you away.
    Oh, Mandy well,
you kissed me and stopped me from shaking,
and I need you today. Oh, Mandy!

    I'm standing on the edge of time;
I walked away when love was mine.
Caught up in a world of uphill climbing,
the tears are in my mind
    and nothin' is rhyming.

    Oh Mandy well,
you came and you gave without taking,
    but I sent you away.
    Oh, Mandy well,
you kissed me and stopped me from shaking,
and I need you today. Oh, Mandy!

    Yesterday's a dream, I face the morning
cryin' on a breeze, the pain is callin'

    Oh Mandy well,
you came and you gave without taking,
    but I sent you away.
    Oh, Mandy well,
you kissed me and stopped me from shaking,
    and I need you today

    Oh Mandy,
you came and you gave without taking,
    but I sent you away.
    Oh, Mandy,well
you kissed me and stopped me from shaking,
    and I need you!

I've never seen the movie, so it reminds me more of player pianos. And those people that, when they see a piano, feel compelled to play the one thing they know, and it's always that song.
