Ok, so being young and and not exactly 'normal', while looking for outerwear, I stumble upon the following: http://img.hottopic.com/is/image/Hot...427_hi?wid=199 First thing I think is, "wow, I like that, but I can never wear it anywhere except clubs." Then I think to myself, why couldn't I take the basic idea, and redesign it to be more semi-formal? So far, I'm thinking the following: -> darkest charcoal fabric I can find -> wool/cashmere or angora/silk, &c. -> standard topcoat collar/lapel/button setup -> full circle bottom 'skirt', maybe 3/4 -> I do like the large cuffs -> buttons? So, am I crazy, or can this be done satisfactorally? Or maybe I would be banned from the SF for even having such thoughts.

Thanks everyone. This is Stagraven's fiance, and while he is all around the greatest guy in the world, he has a few "oh goodness, where did THAT idea come from" style ideas that he refuses to give up. This was one of them.

I have been trying to tell him that such a coat is only appropriate if it is provided by the costumer of the theatrical production in which one is appearing, but he insists it could be an item for regular wear. I'll make him one for Halloween, maybe.

Anyway... I love him, but it's just not a style statement I think he (or anyone) should make.

While I'm at it in this breakout 'first post' I would also like to say that you have given him some wonderful advice and ideas, and he has been dressing much better lately. Thank you all...

I have seen some very dignified arab men wear capes - usually dark wool lined with persian lamb, below the knee. very cool, but not for the faint of heart.
