Some shoe Appreciation for a Monday

The special pricing that Gabor was offering around the time of Sartorial Excellence was simply too good to pass up - I decided to fill a hole in my shoe cupboard with a pair in *gasp* black boxcalf. Here are a few shots of the "old english antic" on the beautiful u-last: very nice detailing on the sole: post would be incomplete without a shot of the trees:

Nice shoes.  By coincidence, I am wearing my Vass U-last shoes today -- look like your shoes but in antic cognac with a medallion on the cap.  They are the most comfortable and best-fitting shoes I own.

I think it's called the "ladder" - I lace all my balmorals like that. From the bottom, one end zig-zags to each hole underneath while the other end goes diagonally underneath to the opposite hole right to the top (crap, that sounds confusing). Isn't there a website somewhere that chronicles the millions of mathematical possibilities for lacing (just as there are for tie knots)?

OK - the lacing according to that site is called the 'shoe-shop' and apparently is selected out of sheer laziness. I guess if we can be lazy about something it could be shoe-lacing. Thanks for all the positive comments - I thought I would get a drubbing for a pair of black shoes (perhaps it's still to come Â

). Â My long-suffering wife's comment upon handing over the parcel was "let me guess, another pair of brown shoes..."
