I went to my favourite outlet store tonight and picked up a couple of bargains. First was a pair of grey Pal Zileri flat-front wool slacks for $A140 ($U110). I've been after some grey slacks for weeks now, after getting some good advice here, and have finally found some. They are unfinished, so I'll need to get them hemmed before I show you. I also trawled through the bargain bin section of the shor shop, and located a pair of brown Barrett loafers in my size. These were $A220 ($U175).

I also tried on a lovely pair of black Santoni tan sock FAM monks, which had just a little brogueing on the front to add some interest. They fit well and I was sorely tempted, but I decided that my next pair of black shoes really need to be Oxfords, so I passed them up. They were $410 ($U325). There were a few other Santoni FAMs at the same prices, both tan and orange sock. Now that I know what's still there, I'd better avoid the place like the plague for a little while.

if you find a brown monkstrap in santoni fam in size 10 D USA I will pay you a finders fee to ship to me in the California. Diorshoe, that would be a UK 9.5D, correct? I called and they say they have some in 9.5. They are just a warehouse, so I don't trust their advice. I'd really want to look. They quoted $690, discounted to $483 (about $US380, depending on who's doing the exchange). Are you only interested in tan sock, or would you be OK with orange sock at that price?

Actually I have a question about these.

From what I can gather reading here, the FAM range can be either Goodyear-welted or Blake-stitched. For the uninitiated, how can I quickly tell what construction my Santonis have?

I think that the Blake-stitched can be deduced by the presence of stitching on the insole if you look in.

Also I believe that the insole of the FAM comes in two colors, orange and brown, with the brown denoting higher quality shoe.

I can tell my FAM is Goodyear welted because it says so on the sole.

They're Blake-stitched then. Oh well, they are still nice shoes, especially at that price. By comparison, I spent the same amount a couple of years ago on my last pair of black shoes - some Lloyd bluchers. I know better now.

Hello cali dreamer, yes i am a 9 - 9.5 UK or 9.5 D or 10 D US

i would only be interested in the tan sock at that price. i know some of the lower fam models in tan sock do come blake stitched but that is ok. the orange sock does not appeal to me.

but let me know. i can give you a finder fee if it is reasonable!
thanks
