Some one stole my ww chan!

So, I get home today to find the FedEx package in my front door, opened and emptied. How wrong is that?!

I call FedEx and they said that it is company policy to leave packages at a residence without a signature. Who on earth leaves a package on the ground floor in NYC, in full view of every passerby and not expect it to get stolen?!

Alternatively it could have been a FedEx employee who stole it and left the box to avoid blame. I called Patrick and see if he can fix the problem. In anycase, FedEx should pay damages for their screw up because WW Chan shouldn't bear the cost of FedEx's mistake. I will call FedEx again tomorrow and try to speak to a supervisor before I put in a motion in small claims court. I have already filed the police report. Anybody have suggestions? What chances do I have in small claims court? Sorry,I just had to vent.

I've dealt with FedEx numerous times in Japan, and their business practices are at best annoyingly inconvenient. I hate this company for my own reasons and now I have an opportunity to hate them vicariously.

Perhaps we could establish an SF investment pool and short sell massive amounts of FedEx stock.

That's odd. My building doesn't have a front desk, and I often see FedEx stickers attached to the front door stating that FedEx has attempted delivery. These stickers have a place for the delivery recipient to sign to consent to have the package dropped off.

FedEx should definitely make you whole. Good luck.

FedEx inside the US sucks. Elsewhere in the world it’s better, but inside the US it’s horrible. UPS is much better at getting a package delivered properly inside the US. And don’t get me started on FedEx Ground!*

My sympathies. In the future, you can also arrange to pick-up at the FedEx terminal near you. I had that done with a computer being delivered. More recently, I follow CHorse's suggestion and have everything come to the office. This practice has resulted in comments re: amount of shoe deliveries, but still worth it.

FEDEX ground could be the most idiotic service ever invented. Let's see, you can send a package across the country via USPS for a few dollars and get it there in 3 days or you could use FEDEX Ground, take 5 business days and pay more money!

Sorry this happened. Hopefully they will pay for a new suit, but I doubt they will recompense for your time and effort wasted.

Fedex does suck. On two separate occasions they've totally screwed up my deliveries, fairly recently actually. Some GVH boots I had been waiting for for a week, they decided to not even come by my place. I was there the whole day and they claimed they "attempted delivery" while in fact, they didn't come near the building. So basically the driver lied instead of consulting, oh I don't know, a MAP?! Or ever heard of this new thing called the "Interweb" or something where they have "Mapquist" or something? Where you can find the place in like 2 minutes of typing and clicking? I ended up having to drive an hour to their warehouse and pick them up. Another package took an extra week and a half to get to me.

sons of bitches should be hung by their balls (both the thief and fedex). Good luck getting something out of Fedex. If it was not insured for full value, you've got your work cut out for you.

If FedEx does in fact leave notices at other buildings (which seems to be the case from one of the above posts), it would be a good idea to try and get some photos of such notices, in the event you do take this matter to small claims court. (in fact, try to get some close-up shots as well, with a recent date written on the notice). That way, you have some evidence to impeach FedEx's claim that it is company policy to leave a box at the address.

In my experience, whether to leave the package is often up to the driver. Where I live now, theft isn't a problem, and FedEx/UPS will sometimes even leave things that actually have the "signature required" tag. Where I lived when I was in school, FedEx/UPS wouldn't even bother bringing the box to the door. They'd run through the apartment building, and stick tags on the doors, automatically assuming that 1) no one was home, and 2) he wasn't going to be leaving any packages anyway.

USPS seems to be the only carrier that actually follows the rules about leaving things that aren't supposed to be left. Of course, going to the post office is often a pain **********...

Good luck with your claim. If Chan undervalues the cost of the suit to save you $ on import, you may have a problem. (You: this was a $1000 suit! FedEx: that's not what the customs form says...)
