Hey all, I'm new to the site and i am trying to learn more about fashion and styles. I'm in a medical field (private office right by Wall St.) and have to dress nice (trousers and dress shirt) most of the time. I'm in NYC, and I see Ferragamo shoes everywhere. In the past five years since graduating, I've collected about 9 Ferragamo pairs and couple of Gucci's & a pair of Prada (loafers and Oxford mainly, but looking around this site, I'm not seeing too much love for either or? Did I just waste my money for the past five years?

Belts, as well own few Ferragamo, Hugo Boss, Hermes, but so far Ferragamo belts and Hermes have lasted, Hugo Boss started to fall apart within a year.

Dress shirts, own all kinds, have Charles Tyrwhitt (misspelled) Gucci, Ferragamo, boss, J. Hillburn (I think, was a gift from the boss) and other random shirts that wife bought. But of the more expensive shirts I love the way CT shirts look/feel.

Dont need suits for work, only for special occasions and parties. I only had 3 to begin with, out of which 2 do not fit anymore. So have all black suit that was customers made in Hong Kong (do not love it though). Have 3 sports coats / jackets that are custom, and they are really nice.

Pants are the weakest... Have anything and everything from macys to online to few customs.

Any advice would be appreciated to spend my money for the best "bang for my buck!"

Thank you for reading.

If the Ferragamos were Tramezzas, then you did fine construction-wise. If not, then, yeah, you could have done a lot better at or just above the prices those brands usually charge. Anything but Tramezza from Ferragamo, Gucci, or Prada is pretty junky. If you want good shoes, I'd start by looking at good machine stitched shoes (just for examples): Alden, Cheaney, Romano Martegani, Carmina, or Tricker's. Then look at hand-welted shoes made by (for example) Meermin Linea Maestro, Enzo Bonafe, and Vass. See what styles and price points appeal to you, and go from there.

I'd say get your shirts MTM, at CEGO in Midtown or through mytailor on one of their frequent NYC visits, or similar. Same with pants.

Thanks for your input. TBH I had not heard of any of these brands before signing up for SF, but will def. Look into them going forward. I like the stuff Carmina has on their site and their prices are close to Ferragamo, so will try them out. Is there store that sells them? I would like to go try them on as different brands shoes fit differently.
