^ Obviously, those trousers are hemmed too short.

Not really just a matter of preference. The suit looks good.

Jacket looks really nice. I think the patch pockets are fine because you kept the breast pocket welted, right? The pockets do look very close to the bottom hem of the jacket, though, but that is totally nit picking (should be at least an inch between the bottom of the pocket and the hem if the coat, no?)

There are no rules regarding pocket placement. Some of these choices reflect styling from the 1950's/60's which is when a lot of these guys were being trained. You stick with what you learn when you were learning. See this on lapel shapes from Naples too.

Now that I've posted these two pics, what adjustments do you suggest on the jacket/trousers?

Trousers are too big at the waist and also too long. But do you suggest anything else?

    Cheers Chris!

I certainly defer to your knowledge. My tailors have always started with in-the-neighborhood-of an 1+1/2 (inch) from bottom of pocket to hem based on aiming long and then being able to slightly shorten (as I'm short!). Also, every RTW with patch pockets I own has at least an inch as well, so there seems to be be at least some basis for this ball-park proportion (unless all my RTW proportions are coincidental, which they very well might be...). I like this news though because I've put off having certain jackets altered based on this miss-conception of mine about pocket placement. Where do you draw the line?

Perfection! The buttonhole on your lapel is exquisite! (I'm not digging the micro check shirt, though...)

Quote: When it looks off to you.

I vary with the overall jacket length and where the top of the patch pocket lines up with the lower button.. Sometimes 1 1/4" to 1 3/4" from the hem.

Can/do you also vary the height of the patch pocket itself? Or does it start to look off rather soon?
I'm asking since I'm also short and tend to shy away from patch pockets for that reason.

Does the jacket in question not 'appear' to be exceeding that threshold (slightly)?

Here's an idea. Why don't you start a thread about ties?
