Which do you prefer for a shirt collar to wear with a suit and tie: soft or stiff collar interlining?

There's a thread for questions and answers. If you don't want to use that, at least start a single thread with your questions about shirts.

To answer the question: it depends on what type of collar you want. Button down - soft, others - stiff.

I thought that most of the "stiff" collar shirt are basically fused, aren't they not?

I know what you guys are talking about when it comes to "stiff" or "soft" collars, but can someone explain what exactly is "interlining"?

I think this is the only thread about shirts I have started. And I'm sorry about the questions and answers thread, I just wanted to know where SF stands regarding this.

If I may piggyback on this thread, can someone tell me what type of fusing, interfacing, etc. to request of my tailor in order to get something approaching this masterpiece?

TB, guys swear by soft linings to achieve that nice "roll" but I find that a stiffer lining, cut that way does the trick for me. Its more about collar shape for my shirts.

I like the roll that comes with soft interlining, but the collar points need to be fairly long for the roll to have a pleasant arc.

Also, to get the roll right the collar needs to be ironed properly, especially if the collar is unfused (my preference). My cleaners always screw it up so I have to touch up my collars every morning, which is kind of a hassle.

If anyone had photos of what they meant of the three, and how different they looked...that would increase the value of this poll. Just my thoughts.
